Multiple people are feared dead after a shooting during a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb on Monday, officials said.
Witnesses told local media that crowds of people fled the scene after shots were heard in Highland Park, Illinois.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a shooting took place and told people to stay away. The office did not confirm the number of victims.
Local media reported that several people possibly died in the incident. Law enforcement sources told Fox32 that one person died.
A video posted by a reporter showed people watching the parade before gunshots were heard, causing people to flee.
Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering wrote on Twitter that residents should avoid the downtown area, saying that there is a significant police response.
“Highland Park Police are responding to an incident in downtown Highland Park,” she wrote. “Fourth Fest has been canceled. Please avoid downtown Highland Park. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
One witness, Miles Zaremski, told CNN that he heard 20 to 25 shots being fired. At least one person was seen bloodied on the ground by his estimate.
“People started saying, ‘There’s a shooter, there’s a shooter, there a shooter,”‘ Debbie Glickman, a witness, told The Associated Press. “So we just ran. We just ran. It’s like mass chaos down there.”
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) confirmed that he was attending the parade at the time of the shooting, saying he’s safe. Schneider did not provide any other details.
“Today a shooter struck in Highland Park during the Independence Day parade. My campaign team and I were gathering at the start of the parade when the shooting started,” Schneider wrote in a Twitter post. “My team and I are safe and secure. We are monitoring the situation closely and in touch with the Mayor.”
Schneider continued to say that he heard that several people died in the incident. The lawmaker appeared to suggest more gun-control measures are needed.
“Hearing of loss of life and others injured,” the lawmaker added. “My condolences to the family and loved ones; my prayers for the injured and for my community; and my commitment to do everything I can to make our children, our towns, our nation safer. Enough is enough!”
Before the shooting, police in Chicago said that over the Fourth of July weekend, more than 50 people were shot, including nine fatally, across the city.
The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence says that Illinois has the eighth strictest gun laws in the United States. Meanwhile, Chicago has among the strictest gun laws of any city in the United States.
..........my county in Texas had zero murders between 2006 and 2015 and pretty much everybody has multiple guns.
Though we now have Constitutional Carry I’ve still not seen anybody carrying a gun though I’m sure MOST have them in their vehicles.
The chart was cut off at 2015 or I would have given murders up to 2022. I think there was finally 1.
Chicago Sun-Times reporting 5 dead and 16 hospitalized. Gunman on the loose, no description.

I’m surprised this happened there, but I am not surprised it happened somewhere. Just perusing social media this morning, I saw a lot of America-hating nuttiness out there.
This sounds and looks like a RAT attack on Caucasian America. Mad Maxine Waters, Nanzi Pelosi, the Squawd Squaws and Biden himself are responsible for encouraging this outbreak of violence against Caucasian Americans at a celebration of America’s Independence.

Highland Park is considered a Democratic stronghold. Highland Park voters overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, over Senator John McCain, 76.3%–23.1%.[needs update] Highland Park voters also tend to prefer Democrats in local races.
At the state level, Highland Park is a part of the 58th House District, represented by Bob Morgan (D-Highwood), and the 29th Senate District, represented by Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield). At the county level, the city is split between Districts 11 and 12, represented by former Highland Park City Councilman Paul Frank (D-Highland Park) and former Lake Forest Mayor Mike Rummel (R-Lake Forest), respectively.
“It’s Chicago. Don’t see how this routine situation is news. Happens every day / weekend.”
Highland Park is an upscale suburb a few miles north of Chicago. Cultures are light years apart. The only thing they have in common is they are both nauseatingly democrat.
HP is about as bad as it gets for uber liberal democrat politics.
It could have been just a new phenomena, shooting people at 4th July events by radical anti-American domestic terrorists. Today it is about killing babies and gun confiscation, tomorrow it will be just because they hate America in general.
White guy!!
It doesn’t mean I want anyone shot, or am feeling any schadenfreude, quite the opposite. But, it does tell me that the people in Highland Park are getting a taste of what they have helped to unleash on Chicago. With the best of intentions, of course. I live in a community somewhat like that, every other house has a BLM or HATE HAS NO HOME HERE yard sign.
Hmmm
Some of the strictest gun control laws on the country, though.
Just terrible. Prayers up.
Has his social media been scrubbed, yet?
Bring back public hanging , with the corpse left to rot , then fed to hogs .
No trials , no incarceration
The fbi is getting really good at this terrorism. I trust they will eventually “find” the white guy they armed and manipulated to do the deed.
i don’t think i’m going out on a limb here by saying nobody that LOVES America did it, so...
