100-year-old WWII vet breaks down, says this isn’t the ‘country we fought for’

Much of what American soldiers fought for in World War II has “gone down the drain,” according to U.S. Marine Carl Spurlin Dekel, who celebrated his 100th birthday last week.

Dekel says serving his country in WWII was the most important thing he ever did, according to Fox 13. The veteran and Silver Star holder says he wouldn’t hesitate to put his life on the line again, but regrets that the U.S. has slipped away from what he remembers.

“People don’t realize what they have,” Dekel told the outlet. “The things we did and the things we fought for and the boys that died for it, it’s all gone down the drain.”

“We haven’t got the country we had when I was raised, not at all,” he says. “Nobody will have the fun I had. Nobody will have the opportunity I had. It’s just not the same and that’s not what our boys, that’s not what they died for.”

He is an amazing man, and I thank God for people like him. Can someone please post what each of his medals signify?

Sergeant of Marines and a Silver Star recipient...true badass.

Trump would probably fly to the sergeant’s home just to have the honor of shaking his hand and thanking him in person.

Yet biden honors scum like Megan Rapinoe, (Who took a knee) with the Presidential Medal of Freedom....Unreal....and a disgrace.

I cannot watch it. Without even watching it, I know exactly what he will say.

I just can’t bring myself to.

><><

I won’t watch it, either.

My WWII vet dad (SS, PH) said this under Obama. I’m sad that he passed before Trump but very glad he didn’t have to witness the death of the country he fought for.

I’m 50. Participated in the Iraq war and feel like a complete fool for doing so. Once you see the game being played, can’t unsee it.

I hear you.

I’m in my 70s, USAF 1970-1974. My Dad was a bomber pilot in WWII in the ETO. He stayed in the USAFR after the war and made colonel, then retired from the Reserves. He “slipped the surly bonds of earth” and touched the face of God when he passed almost 20 years ago. Had he lived until today he’d be 104. He loved this country and was a true patriot. I am glad he did not live to see what became of the country he loved so much.

Also the same places my dad went. North Africa, Italy (Casino), later France, Belgium and the Bulge, Ramagan, and Nurmanberg.

Just seeing the snapshot of this distinguished old man with his medals and his poise is iconic.
It effects me in the way a TV commerical did decades ago, the one showing an ‘American Indian” man staring into the camera with one tear silently rolling down his weathered and wrinkly face. He does not need to articulate any further. We know.

Immigration without assimilation destroys a country’s national identity.

The left has destroyed our country by destroying a strong common national identity.

On purpose in order to destroy the country. They hate it and have always wanted to destroy what it was. They are socialists and have done so on purpose via incrementalism through the hegelian dilectic.

Our family was very lucky. My dad was a prolific letter writer. After his death (would be 101) we put together two thick binders of his letters to our grandparents and his future wife, our mom.

Plenty of us vets are sick at heart over the same thing.

My FIL had malaria 3 or 4 times while over there. He lived until he was 92. God bless him.

That’s very special. Two thick binders worth!

I’ve only seen a few letters my father wrote to my mom, and she to him. Also her siblings wrote him.

I’m sure my FIL had written many letters to his parents and siblings as well. I’ve never seen them though. Private matters. He didn’t meet his bride (my MIL) until after he had returned. They had quite the love story. Well, who didn’t in those days? Such turmoil.

When I went to inquire at the VA for benefits for my mom (Aid and attendance) the man asked me if my father had ever filed for benefits. I said “no sir, I don’t think he believed he was entitled to anything.” He replied to me, “That’s what made them the greatest generation! They went and served their country, and asked nothing in return. They came back home and went on with their lives as best as they could manage.”

About a month after my mom passed, we learned she was approved for help. Bittersweet.

My FIL would be 98 now, and my father would be 95, had they still lived to this day. God bless them for their contributions to our country, and blessings for each of those who have served our country, but especially those from the greatest generation. An entire globe is indebted to you all and your sacrifices.

Must be heartbreaking. You laid your life on the line for a society you believed in and now it is being corrupted by this country’s sin and immorality.

Putin is waging a war of aggression and conquest in Eastern Europe and NATO decides to go to war against . . . climate change.

Do you think Putin is the problem?

We've got a president who nobody can prove was legitimately elected, an open border, lunatics in the highest levels of medicine who are pushing an experimental shot on children, and a press that's been bought and paid for by Big Pharma.

Are you really worried about Putin?

This is not the USA I damn near died for from 2 GSW’s. Bush SR and Clinton started the real trashing of America with NAFTA and DADT. Bush JR. and Obama trashed us big time. Only Trump tried to save America.

Thank you sir. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to keep this country safe. You are not alone in believing that those who gave their lives and limbs did so in vain. These marxists are pissing on the graves of 1.5 million + who gave the maximum to save this nation. It must stop.......
