In his efforts to remake higher education in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed laws that alter the tenure system, remove Florida universities from commonly accepted accreditation practices, and mandate annual "viewpoint diversity surveys" from students and faculty.

Yes.
Eliminate general Ed indoctrination.
Its a good start, but we need more than surveys, Diversity of thought needs to be required just as much as any other kind of diversity. Indeed diversity of thought is far more important than any other kind. That goes for admins as much as for faculty.
Of course that means “Leftists need not apply” in Academia for a generation or more but that’s only because they’re such one-sided Leftist cesspits now.
“ Alternately, they could try to start a Woke business, with a proper Socialist foundation.”
Or…. They can just shut their pie holes and teach.
Without a doubt! This is essential.
He certainly is laying out a repeatable template for other state Governors to follow.
Meanwhile I’m stuck in Pennsylvania with Wolf and its unlikely that a Republican will take over.
Too many dead people voting in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
When I was in college in the ‘70’s we had a special name for tenured professors. “Retired.”
There is so much wrong with the education system it would be better and easier to scrap it and start over.
“.as you lay-off these professors, where can they go next? “
McDonalds is hiring! Assuming they are qualified enough to do that job.
If it were truly used to protect free speech then tenure might be useful. However, if you say one thing that even questions the leftist orthodoxy your tenure can be removed. Imagine a pro-life English professor or a teacher in a medical school who says most cases of transexualism are mental illnesses rather than genetic or hormonal issues. Tenure would never protect them from the purge. If tenure will not protect their speech, then no one should be protected by tenure.
Stupid ex son-in-law has Masters Degree in Psychology and can’t find a job that pays more than driving a fork lift. Worthless degree. He has $100k in student loans and thinks Biden will forgive it.
In a fair system of tenure, professors with unpopular views would be protected from being fired because of those views. It was also meant to protect "academic freedom." So far, it's worked splendidly for leftist professors. Now that the left has taken over a lot of the colleges and universities, conservative professors do not seem to be benefitting from tenure because of their "unpopular" views, and academic freedom be damned. Hopefully, Governor DeSantis will not back off. These pampered crybabies need a massive rude awakening, since they treasure being woke.
The ex SIL might consider applying to be a parole officer for the California Department of Corrections. California agencies worship degrees, and his particular degree could get him in the door.
Ditto!
The perfessers can go back to their home countries.
Lol. My nephew has a degree in psychology and he has worked the deli at Publix grocery store for the last 15 years. He does work hard though.
That'll bite the DEI crowd in the ass.
>>>The tenure system must be abolished. It gives the crazy far left academics protection to act crazy and anti American without fear of consequences.<<<
I’ve been saying that for YEARS. NO MORE TENURE!
I already know the viewpoint of most faculties is 90-95% far-left. But to make their employment dependent on their viewpoint maybe a cure worse than the disease.
Do you think these professors gave a shit when ordinary people got laid off?
They go and panhandle in LA for all I care
