This was posted from a different source a few days ago (https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4074325/posts)...
just wanted to point out one aspect of the whole deal:
"Thousands of people in several other countries, including Japan, Canada and the US, were also infected in the 1970s.
Some of them sued the companies that supplied the infected products and were paid millions of dollars. Several countries have convicted government officials and suppliers."
A horrid story about contaminated blood (HEP B, HEP C, AIDS) that was drawn from Arkansas prisoners and then the blood products (plasma) were sold out of the country with virtually no screening and no information that it came from a prison population... a lot of it went to Canada where some of it was used but the lab there (Connaught Laboratories) also resold some overseas to places like the UK). The company running the deal in Arkansas was Health Management Associates and they sold the blood for $50/unit and paid the prisoners $7 (and not in cash). They were awarded the contract for the blood collection the year Bill Clinton became governor…..
The results were that more than 1,000 Canadians contracted HIV and 20,000 had hepatitis C. Not sure who many Americans were infected but lawyers won settlements for about 8,000 haemophilia sufferers. Also not sure how many people in the UK were affected but likely another 5,000 or so.
Bill Clinton’s fingers were all over the money side of this... The president of HMA was Leonard Dunn and he was a close friend of Bill Clinton and Vince Foster. In fact, Dunn chaired Clinton’s re-election campaign and later was appointed by Clinton to the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. As for Foster, we all know what happened to him in 1993 in Macy Park.
Here are some links that do a fairly good job at telling just how bad this was….
- “Blood Trail” (1998) was written by a former HMA employee Mike Galster (wrote it under the pseudonym Michael Sullivan). It was written as what is called a ‘thinly veiled novel’….. https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/blood-trail_michael-galster/657098/#edition=2601617&idiq=3490438
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ9IEhwApJE This is a fairly decent documentary about the whole sordid affair called “Factor 8: The Arkansas Prison Blood Scandal”
- https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/arkansas-prison-blood-scandal-3732/ Decent high level summary of the scandal
- https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/1999/may/15/tainted-plasma-traced-to-arkansas-prison-bill-clintons-blood-trails/ Discusses the involvement of Bill Clinton with HMA and Dunn….
One of the most scathing aspects of this issue is how much sold blood comes from people who donate blood after being convinced that it will be used locally to fill blood shortages. In many cases it’s a lie.
Thanks for bringing this back.
My brother got Hep C, presumably from a transfusion, probably not from this batch as he was in the US. Then again, who knows where this stuff went or what other shenanigans were going on?
One of the early Clinton scandals I read about here on FR. One of the reasons I will always hate them.
The exact reason I joined FREEREPUBLIC. I had lurked for about a year and this was my 1st motivator.
Woah... I can see you’ve looked into it some! Thanks
One of the things I worry about is the blood from the COVID VACCINATED people - - scares me to death.
Two words: Anthony Fauci
Wasn’t hard... followed it closely at the time and whenever it comes up since then, it definitely gets my attention since one of the main perps from Arkansas has never seen any ‘punishment’ for this... and it should be clear who I’m talking about. Here’s another link with some additional context just in case anyone has forgotten just much evil there was with this individual (and his wife)..... https://newswithviews.com/bill-clinton-and-the-deadly-arkansas-tainted-blood-scandal/
Hubby and I can’t donate thanks to the Mad Cow scandal.
Between the economy and the CoupFlu vaxxes, makes me wonder about the safety of our blood and our burger...
