Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s deadline for the Biden administration to respond to his request that they cancel an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal passed on Wednesday, and he now plans to take action to protect the nation’s gasoline supply himself.
The proposed regulations take aim at the Permian Basin, the largest oil field in the United States, accounting for 95,000,000 gallons of gasoline per day or 40% of the oil produced domestically, according to the Texas Governor’s Office.
Abbott claimed that the EPA’s proposal would further raise gas prices for consumers when fuel already costs more than $5 per gallon in much of the country, according to a letter he sent to the administration Monday. Abbott pledged that if he did not hear back from the administration by June 29 that he would take action to “protect the production of oil—and the gasoline that comes from it.”
“Even as Americans are struggling with $5 gas and record-breaking inflation, team Biden continues to double down on their political commitments to ‘end all fossil fuels,” former EPA Chief of Staff Mandy Gunasekara told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Abbott’s letter comes after the EPA announced last week that it was considering reversing a 2017 ruling that the basin was in compliance with air pollution standards. For that decision the EPA cited emissions levels from the basin from 2014-2016 to determine that operations were in accordance with federal regulations, but environmentalists say air quality has declined precipitously since then, Argus Media reported.
Abbott does not dispute the increased air pollution in his letter, but rather focuses on the practical implications of constraining domestic oil supply at a time of record high prices.

Bravo!
Long ago and far away it was the Permian Sea.
This the same EPA who created a new regulation on Lead smelters for the sole purpose of closing down our last domestic facility.
It was in compliance with every previous regulation, so EPA created a new regulation that was impossible to meet.
As a direct result lead-acid car batteries are now $200.00 each, even for the small ones.
Also affecting ammunition cost.
Now tell me the EPA is not a political hatchet-job organization.
I agree.
The answer is secession. Legal. Full court press after the November elections.
Anyone remember Menachem Begin’s annexation of the Golan Heights? Came right when Poland was in upheaval. Timing. Strike while the iron is hot.
The EPA needs to be dissolved and regulations need to be turned over to the states PERIOD!! Companies then choose which states to do business in, blue states with NO TAX revenue coming in may have to change their ways!! CA. is losing businesses in droves don’t know how long they can honestly keep this up, tech is even leaving the state cost of living is to high to attract workers!!
As I understand it, WV vs. EPA was because EPA was trying to stretch their legislative man-date to encompass ‘greenhouse gases’ which Congress didn’t actually empower them for. Normal, actual pollution is something they’ve been regulating all along.
Very good point.
Maybe if they can prove that Gorebull Worming is part of their rationale. There’s probably a paper trail somewhere.
Atlas ping
Could be...
Mexico via its offshore fields and Venezuela have been the most common, historic imports into the US for blending. Venezuela has been screwed up for a number of decades. PEMEX has been mismanaged and a victim of organized crime that has hindered its productivity and contribution towards Mexico's economic health. Other worldwide sources are tapped to replace Venezuela and Mexico shortfalls.
Refining pros can certainly describe this better and probably more accurately than I if you're out there in FR land.
Thank you for ping.
Last weekend I went to a funeral (for one of my father’s cousins) in Midland. It is 2-1/2 hour drive there, from my house.
Some oil production here, but nothing like Permian Basin.
You are correct. The forces of evil intend to do exactly what you suggested they want to do. And a lot more. It is our duty to prevent that.
And a number of other rouge alphabet agencies.
Restore the Constitution!Size DC!
Time to repeal the 17th Amendment and eliminate the Senior Executive Service too.
