Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s deadline for the Biden administration to respond to his request that they cancel an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposal passed on Wednesday, and he now plans to take action to protect the nation’s gasoline supply himself.
The proposed regulations take aim at the Permian Basin, the largest oil field in the United States, accounting for 95,000,000 gallons of gasoline per day or 40% of the oil produced domestically, according to the Texas Governor’s Office.
Abbott claimed that the EPA’s proposal would further raise gas prices for consumers when fuel already costs more than $5 per gallon in much of the country, according to a letter he sent to the administration Monday. Abbott pledged that if he did not hear back from the administration by June 29 that he would take action to “protect the production of oil—and the gasoline that comes from it.”
“Even as Americans are struggling with $5 gas and record-breaking inflation, team Biden continues to double down on their political commitments to ‘end all fossil fuels,” former EPA Chief of Staff Mandy Gunasekara told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Abbott’s letter comes after the EPA announced last week that it was considering reversing a 2017 ruling that the basin was in compliance with air pollution standards. For that decision the EPA cited emissions levels from the basin from 2014-2016 to determine that operations were in accordance with federal regulations, but environmentalists say air quality has declined precipitously since then, Argus Media reported.
Abbott does not dispute the increased air pollution in his letter, but rather focuses on the practical implications of constraining domestic oil supply at a time of record high prices.

Exactly.
In wartime a country has its energy production attached by an aggressor.
This seems like a similar move.
A smart government promotes energy production.
Thanks for the mention.
95,000,000 barrels annually.
Heck, open up the Green River Oil Shale formation in Colorado/Utah and the US will have enough oil for another 200 years (based upon current consumption). No need to import any oil again.
With Alaska and the Green River Oil Shale, the USA has more proven oil reserves than the entire Middle East combined.
Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement after the Supreme Court ruled against EPA overreach in West Virginia v. EPA:
“I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate the EPA’s power grab and rein in this lawless Biden Administration. Texas joined other States in this case to stop D.C. bureaucrats from imposing costly regulations without any authority from the people’s elected representatives in Congress. Today’s landmark victory against an out-of-control administration is also a big win for Americans who worry about skyrocketing energy costs due to expensive federal regulations that threaten our energy industry. President Biden cannot keep attacking the energy industry and the hardworking men and women who power our nation.”
Thanks Rusty.
Sounds like Abbott thinks that ruling may help.
Someone else made a good case for it not helping. I hope it
does.
I see much of this as political harassment.
G_D damn Biden, his handlers, and his supporters.

More like $8 dollar diesel. I drive a truck for a living and it’s already $7 here on the east coast in states like New York.
And if that ain’t bad enough, I’m hearing rumors of a diesel fuel shortage coming soon which I would not doubt in the least as this is all intentional by the Biden occupation.
If there is a diesel fuel shortage, it would be like dropping a nuke on our economy, everything would come to a standstill. Food couldn’t be delivered, gas trucks couldn’t make deliveries to gas stations preventing cars from driving which I’m sure is the aim of the Biden occupation. All construction would end, power plants would be short on coal, manufacturing plants would close, it would be a nightmare and I have a real bad feeling in my gut it’s coming. Why? Because I am convinced 100% the country is under enemy occupation.
Two trillion bbls of oil I believe
‘’’Yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling curtailing the administrative authority of the EPA may curtail any hopes of shuttering domestic production through Clean Air regulations.’’’
From your lips .....
Wow. The Biden presidency has been a gold mine for the conservative movement in this country.
Disband the EPA. They’re drunk with power and will destroy the country.
Part of the diesel problem, as I understand it, is from fracking, which produces a lighter crude that doesn’t lend itself easily to diesel production. This makes Biden’s refusal to approve new oil leases for more conventional drilling methods even more dangerous.
Declare Texas a sanctuary from the EPA. Use their sanctuary tactics against them.
This is literally MY back yard! I hope Gov. Abbott can bring Texas some independence from the federal nutjobs who want us broke and under their thumbs!
There is no oil field called the “Permian Basin.”
Go to court, and FAST, before more conservative judges are replaced by Globalist judges.
After yesterday’s SCOTUS decision, the Biden administration’s strategy is likely to end up on the scrap heap.
Praying so, because that is exactly where it belongs!
The entire Permian Basin IS an oil field! LOL!
