A data breach at California's Department of Justice has exposed every state resident holding a permit to carry a concealed weapon, authorities learned this week.
The breach exposed permit holders' names, addresses and license types, but no social security numbers or financial information were compromised, officials said in a press release.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said it learned of the violation Tuesday from the California State Sheriff's Association after the state DOJ launched its "2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal."
"This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department," California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a press release.
"I immediately launched an investigation into how this occurred at the California Department of Justice and will take strong corrective measures where necessary," Bonta said.

Who’s getting fired?
I’d start with the head of IT.
L
can we all say: “intentional”
The names on that list would be very interesting.

Hmmm. All Republicans! What a coincidence!
Well at least everyone will know who they shouldn’t attack.
> Who’s getting fired? <
Probably some temp guy at the bottom of the IT organizational chart. His boss might get a letter of reprimand.
As a side note, I wonder if this data breach was deliberate. Because it sure sounds like something a California lib would do, especially after the Supreme Court’s latest 2A ruling.
Can the gun owners file (and win) a lawsuit against the state?
Just days after the Supreme Court decision expanding right to carry. Sounds like retaliation by liberals. Officials are shocked (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
I’m sure this was quite on purpose, to allow doxing by the rats.
I guess the right to privacy is only sacred for abortions.
A sternly worded letter of reprimand will be issued.
According to radio reports from KFI-AM (L.A.), there are oodles of politicians and celebrities on the list. The list was taken down after about 10-12 hours, but you can be sure all of their personal info was gobbled up. This is much too egregious an “error” to be anything but intentional, but don’t expect anything to come of the “investigation.” We’re still waiting to hear who leaked Justice Alito’s draft .. .
This is getting no attention in the main meeting.
It islike a shopping list for burglars.
The ones doing what they were told to do?

Actually, no. There’s going to be a lot of rich and famous Hollywood celebs *very* unhappy about that now. Remember, it’s CA and in most CA urban areas, you must be rich, famous, connected or all three to even have a chance to get a permit.
You answered your own question. I’ll add my $0.02, it was ABSOLUTELY done on purpose.
I’m not sure what damage it did other than it’s wrong, what can someone do with the info? Most people don’t want anything to do with an armed person other than to stand behind them when the SHTF.
