NATO is a military alliance, not an economic or social alliance. It is entirely possible to have a military alliance consisting of nations that otherwise see the world very much differently. This was the case in both World Wars, and even within NATO itself for most of its existence. For example, while the U.S. and Britain were led by capitalist/nationalist Reagan and Thatcher, fellow member France was led by Socialist Laurent Fabius, Italy was led by Socialist Bettino Craxi, and Canada was led by leftist Pierre Trudeau.
Anyone who raise the "WEF/NWO" cry regarding NATO membership is acting as either a witting or unwitting tool of Russian propaganda. It's a classic Soviet/Russian tactics to try to weaken the one organization that has restrained Russia's imperial ambitions in Europe since WW2.

I'm not cheering for either Ukraine or Russia. Just trying to understand what it's all about and to me, it seems like NATO and related NGOs have gone from defense to offense. The word 'democracy' is used 15 times on the Damon Wilson wikipedia page. "Our democracy" is a plan, not a name for anything current.
I'm sure Russia knows all of the above. Might explain their actions a little.
