Oil exports to break records as refining shortages limit local processing

Oil exports leaving the Gulf Coast are projected to reach record highs in the coming weeks as releases from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve boost domestic oil supplies but insufficient refining operations squeeze the ability to process it.

The amount of Gulf Coast crude bound for other countries could reach 3.3 million barrels per day in the second quarter, researcher Rystad Energy says. The current record, 3.2 million, was set in the first quarter of 2020, before the pandemic wiped out global demand for oil.

lets go Brandon!

to be fair, if a new large capacity refinery hasn’t been built in 40 years..

it’s not just Brandon’s fault we don’t have the capacity to refine what we need.

the fact that we still don’t have that capacity IS Brandon’s fault.

He’s been in GOVERNMENT FOR 50 YEARS.

They were in control of the government for most of that time and regulated the hell out of the energy sector to where it was impossible to build a new refinery or nuclear or coal fired power plant....................

So we are not even using the strategic petroleum reserve!
We are just exporting it to lower oil prices?!

Trump filled up the SPR with relatively cheap (to the taxpayers) crude oil. Now we're draining the nation's emergency crude supply to 36-yr. lows while shipping 3 million BPD to Europe.

What a plan. /s

Thanks to Biden’s green lunacy and no new pipelines or refinery construction, the United States will be forced to import refined products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and lubricants from refineries in India, Africa and Asia. Americans will pay a premium for these products and all energy including electricity. The economy will weaken and people will become poorer.

That’s what it looks like to me. Why aren’t we exporting wind farms instead. Does the word STRATEGIC have any meaning to our fake President?

JRB, Jr. actually stopped a proposed refinery expansion this past May.

import refined products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and lubricants from refineries in India,

The India refined petroleum products are made from Russian crude bought at around $70 bbl making them huge profits. US refineries cannot compete.

India is the number 2 buyer of Russian crude after China at number 1.

Communist countries are notorious for poverty, supply chain disruptions, and shortages.

“a new large capacity refinery hasn’t been built in 40 years...”

Thank the environmentalists for that.

Just about everyone cares for the environment in some sense. However, to get the coveted “environmentalist” title, one must be an environmental extremist. It’s the environmental extremists who stopped us from building new, more efficient, cleaner refineries.

I think it would be beneficial if we spoke of the “human environment.” Man-eating lions are bad for the human environment. Littering is bad for the human environment. A new refinery would be good for the human environment.

Restart or remain shuttered—Why rationalized US refineries will not come to the rescue.

"Some refineries were shut to lower corporate greenhouse gas emissions, while others were shut to convert to renewable diesel production facilities."

Prediction: there will never be another oil refinery build in the United States, as it is presently constituted. Of course, the balkanized American south, when it happens, will build refineries.
