Ukraine announced the largest exchange of prisoners of war with 144 soldiers returned to Ukraine, including dozens of soldiers who defended against the Russian siege of Mariupol, became a symbol of Russian repression and Ukrainian defiance.
2,500+ Ukrainian soldiers surrendered after holding out for months in bunkers beneath Azovstal steel factory in Mariupol. Their surrender marked the end of one of the most brutal battles.
When the Ukrainian government issued the surrender directive to end the standoff, the government vowed to do all it could to ensure they would be returned home. The Kremlin propaganda machine had long sought to use the far-right origins of the Azov regiment as proof of its FALSE claim that the Ukrainian state has been infected with Nazism.
Exchange of husband and wife both soldiers with Azov regiment have two children.
“The children were living without their parents,” Budanov said. “We insisted that the Russians give them over.” Both were part of the exchange.
Commanders of the Azov regiment and a marine unit fought at Azovstal have been moved to Moscow, being held at the notorious Lefortovo Prison. Among those detained: Lt. Col. Denys Prokopenko, the head of the Azov regiment at Azovstal, and Capt. Svyatoslav Palamar, his deputy, with Maj. Serhiy Volyna, commander 36th Separate Marine Brigade.
“They say they are conducting investigative activities,” Mr. Budanov said, referring toRussian authorities. “But we understand they are undergoing recruitment — directing them to adopt the Russian position. This is war, you understand.”
The reaction of some military bloggers in Russia was swift and angry, calling the exchange a betrayal. Yuri Podolyaka, popular pro-Russian blogger, said it was “a spit in the face of front lines soldiers and residents of the Donbas.”
“If this is called ‘denazification’ of Ukraine, perhaps it wasn’t worth starting it,” he said.

LOL, so all the posters here who thought that Azov members who surrendered would be summarily executed, shipped to Siberia, or put on trial in Russia for “war crimes” turn out to be wrong.
But they’re used to being wrong by now I think.
Let me tell you how big she is. She’s so big, when she was captured, the Ukrainian military’s food budget dropped by 50%!
No problem. Switched news source [title] at last minute. While we are waiting, for my daughter’s MRI of the brain and spinal cord, I went audit news & just had to post to Free Republic
Although I do think my mistake is hysterical LOL
Do I dare to say now ‘lighten-up?!?!
Take care of your daughter, Mom. This stuff isn’t important.
It seems to me that if I discovered a unit under me had something horrible in its past - not something that happened to it, but something about its own origins and character - the right thing to do would be to disband it and create new unit(s) without a traceable connection to the former unit. By maintaining the unit it becomes harder to believe that ties were ever totally cut with the past. Seems like the higher ups are trying to play both sides, retaining the unit for the sake of neo-Nazi sympathizers while downplaying it to the rest of the world.
I recommend the Chris Jericho book and most of it was about his time wrestling for New Japan. It’s true. Guys like the late Scott Hall were too big for the small Jap toilets. It got to a point that they asked for an ex-pat who supplies US size stuff for the US base in Okinawa to have them installed at the local hotel where the American wrestlers would stay. Crazy..

Sorry all! Although it would be real funny to capture and release that ‘new’ 200 stone Russian General! :D”
Thank you Jon, there is nothing we can do but wait... I need sleep too LOL
OOps! Another mistake in Comment 15: 20 stone NOT 200 stone! 200 stone would be equal to 2800 lbs!
Andre the Giant?
5.56mm
The Russian general I saw in another thread looks close to 2800 pounds.
Orca sized.
5.56mm
He is short. Thank might affect his photo.
I read in another article said Pavel Requires Two Sets of Body Armor!
“Pavel, who weighs 127 kg, requires FIVE MEALS A DAY and a LITER OF VODKA. Designing uniforms for Pavel are very difficult because of his weight, therefore his uniforms are specially designed.”
Signing off now... need to make dinner LOL
If I drank a liter of vodka a day, you would probably find me in the morgue.
5.56mm
Oh, prisoner EXCHANGE. I thought maybe they caught a 500 lb. Russian.
Already reported title to admin.
OK....now you know I had to visualize that. “thanks” I know you meant well.
