Russia’s War in Ukraine Drives a Quantum Leap in NATO Weaponry
WSJ ^ | 29-JUN-2022 | Daniel Michaels

Posted on 06/29/2022 7:20:39 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

The conflict in Ukraine is driving a modernization of NATO weaponry, honing the alliance’s ability to face off against Russia and adding to the list of unintended consequences from Moscow’s invasion of its smaller neighbor.

Former East Bloc NATO members have been arming Ukraine with Soviet-designed equipment similar to Kyiv’s existing gear.

That has permitted a military housecleaning of their own arsenals on a scale that would have been unimaginable months ago. In turn, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization will help its eastern members replace those arms with newer ones, greatly improving efficiency.

“No one but Taiwan has such top tier fabrication. (Speeds)”

Demand drives production. But the whole question is silly, because if China stops selling to the West, then China kills their own economy as well and they are back to being a nation of rice farmers.

“Do you think China will not react to NATO expansion as well?”

China doesn’t care about a defensive alliance against Russia, no. China is a regional power and regional powers don’t care much about geopolitical concerns outside of their region.

There’s one by me that I think wants to fight me.
We stare at each other, neither moves, and he chirps some squirrel aggression at me…

I completely disagree with your opinion. Every aspect.

South Korea makes plenty. But the question was about integrated circuits, was it not?

Anyway, as I said to the other poster, it’s a silly question altogether. If China cuts off the West, China slits its own throat, so that won’t be happening.

Fat military contracts is what the war is about. Can’t sell new stuff unless we get countries to dispose of the old weapons. What better way than to toss them into the Ukraine conflict to be destroyed.

Russia’s biggest unintended consequence is now the certain entrance of Sweden and Finland into NATO, particularly Finland. They did not want NATO on their borders and now they have an extended border with NATO. Putin’s massive blunder.

It's going to be interesting when the PKK guys in Sweden and Finland get renditioned to Türkiye in the middle of the night when no one is looking.

"Midnight Express", I think Erdogan is going to call it.

They have eaten my car’s wiring, chewed up the telephone lines, planted acorns all over the yard in flower beds, bushes etc, busted two car windshields by dropping huge pinecones on them, dented the hood on my truck same way, .................I kill them whenever I can with an air rifle.............

Red squirrels will kill you dead.

They like to get up in the attic and chew your wiring. Started a fire in my neighbor's attic.

Kill them without pity.

Actually South Korea doesn’t even come close to China in the number of smart phones made or exported.
China is totally dominant.

“China is totally dominant.”

Not for long without Western markets to sell to and Western resources to import.

What do you mean, “next”?

Russia has gotten away with utter murder for over 25 years

Literally, in the cases of Chechnya, Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Syria.

Most of the West, including UK, Europe and the USA has experienced unprovoked cyber attacks on critical national infrastructure (Russia’s cyber war on America includes the Solarwinds attack and multiple attacks on healthcare providers).

North Korea was the proxy for the attack on Sony too if you like).

Russia’s hacktivists in the Caucasus have been at it constantly - I started a job in cybersecurity in 2005 and actually got to talk to an outfit in central Russia who were running a 24/7 social engineering project using online dating sites to extract money and intel from mostly American guys. Their honeytraps included middle aged women trained to sound sultry and young while speaking sexy.

The best advertising for China is, America being perfectly happy to be attacked by Saudi, Russian, North Korean and Chinese nation state actors, while demonstrating zero tolerance toward AK-47 wielding men in tents screaming “Allahu Akbar!” from a dustbowl in the Middle East.

Which countries stole your manufacturing capabilities and a ton of intellectual property from you over the last 30 years? What have you done about it besides whing (hence South Park: “Dey’re Tekkin are Jubs!”)

As far as Putin and Xi are concerned the White House is almost always occupied by a passive pushover that’ll show up a minimum of four to eight years late to any world war that might actually involve getting real down and dirty in a land war.

They were slightly worried by Trump but then mollified by his banter with Kim Jong Un.

Along came Biden... Best gift ever.

Not only did America refuse to poke these bears even when they were directly attacking America, half of America still doesn’t want to react when Russian tanks and missiles are raining down in Eastern Europe AND threatening to nuke America.

As long as the Deep State or Military industrial complex is raking in the dough, they reason it’s all good.

Russia hasn’t had so much as a slapped wrist yet. China is on a deckchair, cracking open a bag of popcorn, and waiting to see hod far Putin can go before the USA does something more substantial than sending rich tea and sympathy to the Baltic.

Actually the Chinese smart phone market is BY FAR the biggest in the world. Far, far bigger than the US market.
And most of the fastest growing smart phone markets are in Asia and Africa. The US and Europe are mature markets.

“Actually the Chinese smart phone market is BY FAR the biggest in the world.”

Which is mostly irrelevant. A domestic industry selling to a domestic market does not make a country a world economic power. Exporting does.

You’ve also missed the fact that without the trade relationships that China has with the West, that domestic industry will dry up, since they cannot produce all those smart phones without raw materials, that they primarily purchase from the West. I know it’s not widely talked about, but China is not only the world’s largest exporter, they are also the world’s second largest IMPORTER, and almost all of her primary trade partners are Western countries. If she cuts off those relationships, it’s back to the plow for China.

What do Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Afghanistan, South America, and Libya think of the US military’s, and CIA’s, actions for the last 40 years?

Everyone’s deeds stink.
How about we turn our attention to our border, economic issues, and our moral depravity?
Your thought process is like an alcoholic that just keeps drinking to stave off the withdrawal.
Cirrhosis is on the horizon for the US…
