China accused NATO of “making enemies” as the alliance acknowledged the “challenge” presented by the rising communist power amid the war in Ukraine.
North American and European officials have negotiated a statement on China that is expected to be modest in substance but nonetheless significant for an alliance that historically has focused on security in the trans-Atlantic area. Yet Beijing marked the occasion with a sharp criticism of the Western powers, mirrored by an extemporaneous rebuke of China delivered by NATO’s top civilian.
“China’s development presents an opportunity for the world, not a challenge for anyone,” Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Tuesday. “We solemnly urge NATO to immediately stop spreading false and provocative statements against China. What NATO should do is to give up the Cold War mentality, zero-sum game mindset, and the practice of making enemies and stop seeking to disrupt Asia and the whole world after it has disrupted Europe.”
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will command much of the attention during the annual gathering of NATO leaders in Madrid, but the allies also invited the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand to participate in the summit. Their attendance, a historic convocation of NATO and Indo-Pacific leaders, reflects a growing interest in a coalition of democracies to manage threats from China and Russia — which “are more close now than they’ve ever been before,” as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg lamented ahead of the summit.

Like China was our friend anyway.
The only way to keep your enemy ay bay is to be strong.
Washington DC is a bubble-mentality this is quickly turning into a bunker-mentality.
Nothing will help that situation quite like having a corrupt, senile, old horse’s ass at the helm.

There can be 2 things simultaneously true - China is our enemy, and the overzealous bipartisan war machinery is provoking the world by expanding NATO. Both can be true.

That being said, we have a home here in the United States.
Unless we plan on supporting Russia and China if we should
go to war with them, we need to keep that in mind.

it clear they would support Russia and China if push came
to shove. Yes, that’s what your comments look like to me.
Please consider what you are saying. Express differences
with Biden and company, but this is Our homeland and it’s
the only one we’re going to have. Biden is temporary.
The next guy is not going to back the global reset agenda.
NATO will be fighting on our side.
If you guys think Russian and China are sincerely going to
usher in the next 100 years of prosperity and peace on this
planet, you’ve moved on from sane thinking.

Has it occurred to you that China and Russia are seeking
realignment around the world. Brazil is now courting China or vise versa. So are other nations in our expanded
hemispher.
You guys need to get off this NATO kick. You’re stuck on empty.
What did you expect Sweden, Finland, Eastonia, Latvia, and
others to do after Russia attacked the Ukraine. Last time
it was because there were Russian speakers in the Ukraine,
and they weren’t being treated right.
Do you really think NATO had to twist their arms to get
them to join?
Sweden has prided itself on neutrality. They’ve sat out
wars over that neutrality. Now they’ve been shaken to
the point they want the protections of NATO.
This time is was NATO, NAZIs, and biolabs.
Next time it’s just going to be naked aggression on a
whim.

Yup. All good points.
But you have to realize — and I’m sure you do — that there are a cadre of pro-Russia cheerleaders here on FR that will continue to spout their drivel regardless of reality. Their playbook is simple: Russia = GOOD; the West = BAD.
A long time ago I had a neighbor who objected to my putting up a permitted and perfectly security fence and locked gate on my property. He was one of the reasons why I did this because he had a weird fetish for cutting down MY bushes on MY property.
He made all sorts of violent threats at me after that and I suppose you could say I provoked him by keeping him out.
Ditto with NATO. The point of NATO is to keep Russia at bay. If Russia doesn’t like that and they threaten war then they’ve justified the existence of NATO. But no matter how you slice it Russia has exactly no rights to someone else’s territory. None. Zip. Nada.
China can just go suck rocks if they don’t like it.

Even Switzerland has joined on with the EU sanctions against Russia and they’re currently moving to integrate operations with NATO and perhaps even apply for membership.
Way to go Russia.
Next up will be Austria joining NATO.
