CNN)A Texas state court has issued a temporary restraining order against certain local and state officials, barring them from enforcing a nearly century-old abortion ban in the state. The order will have the effect of allowing some Texas clinics -- at least for a short period -- to resume the procedure for up to around six weeks into the pregnancy. A separate Texas law prohibiting abortion, its so-called trigger ban, will go into effect within the next few weeks.
Tuesday's temporary restraining order will last until July 12, according to the Harris County Attorney's Office. The court has scheduled a hearing for that day.
Providers had filed the lawsuit Monday against the handful of local district attorneys whose jurisdictions cover the locations of some of their clinics, as well as against some state officials, including Attorney General Ken Paxton, who may play a role in enforcing the ban.
"This decision will allow abortion services to resume at many clinics across the state, connecting Texans to the essential health care they need," Marc Hearron, senior counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, which is involved in the case, said in a statement. "Every hour that abortion is accessible in Texas is a victory."

The legislature has all the cards. These judges are just activists throwing rubbish on the road.
I fail to see how a judge can impose a “restraining order” to stop the Attorney General from doing his job as dictated by the state legislature. The legislature should really just impeach the judge to set an example.
It will likely be reversed on appeal before then.
Will Dims start another civil war to protect abortion like they did to protect slavery?
They’re going to satiate their blood-lust right up until the last possible motive. Truly demonic.
Another black-robed git sticking his tongue out at the will of the Texas people.
This was entirely predictable and we’ll probably see more of these desperate procedural ploys. We knew that the battle would shift to the States, so here we go. Now is not the time to act stunned or angry or allow ourselves to get distracted, but to engage the fight even more doggedly now that it is closer to our own turf. Let’s keep rolling.
Ken Paxton should issue an arrest warrant for this idiot judge who would
1) Defy a Supreme Court order and
2) Defy state law.
More judges acting has political hacks or legislators.
I knew thus would happen as soon as the first Judge didn’t get an immediate smackdown
Ken Paxton said yesterday that they expected this to happen and ready to fight it. And will win. I’m sure this judges ruling will be overturn by an appeal to a higher court in Texas.
Agree. I’m sure Ken is working on this as we speak.
...........as long as there is a planet earth cruising along in it’s orbit as it has for millions of years there will be litigation going on over abortion............
It’s the gift that keeps on giving to lawyers!
Accessory to murder.
Funny they don’t mention the name or names of the judge or judges who issued this order. Yeah, funny— and I don’t mean ha-ha funny.
Just heard Ken Paxtonnis immediately appealing this judges unconditional order.
Why did they need to protect slavery? The US government protected slavery.
Lincoln even went so far as to ask that an amendment be passed to protect it even more. The Republican controlled congress did indeed pass this amendment, and this amendment said:
“No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.”
This would have given the nation permanent slavery, and it was passed with Republican votes.
So why did they need to protect slavery?
You need to tell it right.
Roe and Casey finally got overturned after decades and now, in brazen defiance of that, state judges are writing their own mini-Roe and mini-Casey decisions despite having zero authority to do so.
State governments need to stand up and affirm that those mini-Roe and mini-Casey decisions have no legal standing whatsoever and will not be followed.
