California will become the first state to remove immigration status as a barrier to health care, making all low-income undocumented residents eligible for state-subsidized insurance regardless of age.
Gov. Gavin Newsom late Sunday announced a budget deal he struck with the Legislature included a new Medi-Cal expansion that would cover more undocumented adults.
The program’s launch, starting no later than Jan. 1, 2024, is expected to provide full coverage for approximately 700,000 undocumented residents ages 26-49 and lead to the largest drop in the rate of uninsured Californians in a decade.
“This historic investment speaks to California’s commitment to healthcare as a human right,” said Sen. María Elena Durazo, D-Los Angeles.
The state already allows many undocumented residents to join Medi-Cal. In 2015, California began allowing undocumented children to join Medi-Cal. Four years later, eligibility broadened to those younger than 26. And in May, the state started covering people aged 50 and over.
The MediCal expansion is expected to cost $2.6 billion annually.

Now we know you are a troll...Democrat dumbass.
Think this is just a Ca problem? Over everything else the #1 receiver of federal income tax revenue is the Ca Healthcare system... Why the other states are not suing the hell out of them for stuff like this I have no clue.
Did someone’s mommy not give him his trophy today?
“Good luck paying for that, LOL.
Any sane person that hasn’t left that state yet, needs to get out immediately.”
They don’t have to afford it alone, we all pay for it.
“The rest of the US will be paying for it to through fed $ going into CA.”
Yep... Absolutely. The Ca healthcare system is the #1 receiver of fed tax dollars.
you just signed up to announce your dooshbaggery?
Yep...
But it's so purty there, and there's so much to do...LOL...Hope they can keep up the ports, ag etc... the state also serves as a dweeb magnet that might be of benefit to more sanely managed locales.
Yes but the politicians that are ruining the state allows both. And as for the majority of CA, they re-elected Gruesome Newsome - and then put him back in when the recall failed. So I have no sympathy for them.
I’m sure this is true, but sadly, it’s impossible to get conservatives elected in CA.
This move will cost the state far more than the projected 2.6 billion dollars and like Romneycare will eventually and QUIETLY be shutdown.
Not to mention the HUGE number of freeloaders who will migrate to California initially... as if they don't have enough ILLEGALS already.
Simply put... a ticking TIME BOMB!
Or a plant..
Hard to say...but you seem to think very highly of yourself.
California already had “illegal only” medical clinics in 1980`s and 1990`s. We tested it for discriminatory practices in 1990`s. Took an illegal female waitress [working in Foster City restaurant] from Guatemala to a clinic in San Lorenzo, CA together with a legal immigrant Chinese lady, both who had the same medical problem. At the door, the receptionist asked for our immigrant status. They allowed the Guatemalan girl to be treated .. I went with her to the doctor myself and asked him pointblank if he treated US citizens; he said no, only non-citizens, which meant illegals. The Chinese lady was mad as hell. This has been going on for over 40 years. I called my CA congressman about it; they never gave me an answer.. So your USA tax dollars, I found out later, have been going to medical offices that treat only illegals. I did paralegal there for housing, health, employment etc. for legal immigrants for 15 years. We also tested UCSF Medical Center Parnassus with an illegal 8 year old girl with intussusception, accompanied by her parents. They treated her without cost. But my Chinese lady citizen friend was billed by UCSF for $30,000 in 1996 for a dog bite. It`s a crooked crooked traitorous communist state.
Go for it. That’ll attract all the illegals there like bugs to a bug zapper
