Fmr. Obama Treasury Counselor Rattner: We Discouraged Opening New Refineries Due to Misjudged ‘Transition Away from Gasoline’
Breitbart ^ | 24 Jun 2022 | IAN HANCHETT

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Steve Rattner, who served as counselor to the Treasury Secretary in the Obama administration, stated that there is a bit of “schizophrenia” in our energy policy where “We’ve been discouraging oil companies from maintaining refineries or opening new ones. Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline.” But the problem is, there was a “misjudgment as to how long of a transition it was going to be and what we needed to do to make the transition work.”

Rattner stated that “refining capacity has gone down” due to refineries shutting down since the pandemic, but “the rest of the ones that are left are running at full capacity.” And “As much as can be refined is being refined.”

He later added, “The problem is that, of the five [refineries that have shut down], one had a fire, one had some kind of explosion. You cannot simply — these are not simply things you can turn on like a car. It takes months, it costs tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. And by the way, this is, again, a little bit of the schizophrenia. We’ve been discouraging oil companies from maintaining refineries or opening new ones. Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline. But we, again, made a misjudgment as to how long of a transition it was going to be and what we needed to do to make the transition work.”

Biden increase regulations over oil refineries causing 5 refineries to close in 2021; Louisiana, New Mexico, N. Dakota, California and Wyoming? A Texas refinery closed in 2022. Biden blames the oil companies for not doing more while he plans to eliminate the industry. Educate yourself.

I've never worked a single day in the oil industry, but I knew this.

Educate yourself.

OK, lets start with these new regulations which caused the oil companies to close. Can you point me to where I can read up on them?

the name rings a bell.

this is the guy who told the gm bondholder funds that if they didn’t agree to restructuring, he would, in some detail, unleash the federal bureaucracy on both them and their clients directly?

We also misjudged energy demand by banning coal.
Obama delivered on his promise to bankrupt all coal producers.
Now we have lingering blackouts!

Their fairly tales did not come true?

Sustainability test. Run a solar component manufacturing plant, building solar panels, charge controllers and batteries, strictly off of solar power. Do the same with wind turbines. Turbines, charge controllers and batteries manufactured using nothing but wind power.

Translation: Trump really messed things up for us, making us energy independent.
