Major shakeups are underway in the Russian command structure in Ukraine, according to a report from the Institute for the Study of War
Experts found that top officials may be blamed for not fully capturing Ukraine and the Kremlin may replace those officers with new faces
Russia has suffered significant losses since the invasion of Ukraine began almost four months ago, including a dozen high ranking generals
The Kremlin recently replaced the commander of the Russian Airborne forces and could be in the process of a major shakeup of their current command structure in Ukraine, according to a new report from the Institute for the Study of War.
The analysis found that many top officials could be blamed for the failure to fully capture Ukraine, prompting the Kremlin to replace those officers with new faces.
Ukrainian sources reported that Serdyukov was previously fired from his post by the Kremlin for "poor performance" and "high casualties," according to ISW's report.
"Such drastic rotations within the Russian military, if true, are not actions taken by a force on the verge of a major success and indicate ongoing dysfunction in the Kremlin's conduct of the war," the report states.
The ISW also listed other rumors of high-level Russian military leaders being purged from the ranks, including the overall commander of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Army General Alexander Dvornikov, though the allegations couldn't be independently confirmed.
A report from Christo Grozev, the lead Russia journalist for investigative outlet Bellingcat, claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin planned to replace Dvornikov after hearng reports of his "excessive drinking" and a lack of trust in him by Russian forces.

Russia has failed to capture Ukraine since its unprovoked invasion began on February 24. After making no progress toward capturing the capital city Kyiv, Russian forces have turned their attention to the eastern part of the country, where a grinding war is now being waged.
Well, the Ukrainians have “replaced” quite a few Russian Generals already...
At some point the Russian military will turn on Putin.............
“Experts say……”
But why aren’t they retreating?
“Yahoo News” most certainly.
If Putin even lasts that long
Remember the way constant battlefield losses took a health toll on Hitler?
Putin is currently getting pushed around in a wheelchair, with a blanket on his lap ... and the bad news from the front keeps coming ...
Hitler was also a big time drug user.
He took a shot to put him to sleep, another to wake him up, yet another to regulate his bowels and others for other reasons. His personal doctor was a quack.
Experts say there are mounting signs that the Kremlin is purging its top generals in Ukraine
—
Is that purging as in retiring or the more common ‘purging’ as in disappearing?
RE: “purging” top generals
Who are they replacing these top generals with?
“top officials may be blamed for not fully capturing Ukraine”
Impossible, FReepers keep telling me the “war is over”. Or maybe “it will be over in 2 weeks”. Of course they were also saying that 3 months ago.
General officer purge. How well did that work for Stalin in 1941?
Think of how OUR woke generals would perform under similar circumstances.
Putin will croak within a year. And this cannot come too soon. Putin is the spit and baling wire that is holding Russia together. Chaos will come after him. The jousting and warring to replace him will be a sight to behold.
How many generals do they have? Everyday Russian generals are either killed or replaced according to Yahoo
Lots of Ukraine propaganda today, media must be trying to get in front of something.
I wonder if Putin is considering bring back the shtrafbat, the penal battalions used in WWII?
I like Putin’s style:
Let’s redeploy to Afghanistan and put our woke generals on the front lines.
(I’ll make popcorn)
—”But why aren’t they retreating?”
“On July 28, 1942, Joseph Stalin, premier and dictator of the Soviet Union, issues Order No. 227, what came to be known as the “Not one step backward” order, in light of German advances into Russian territory. The order declared, “Panic makers and cowards must be liquidated on the spot.”
The order also directed that each army must create “blocking detachments” at the rear that would shoot “panic-mongers and cowards”.[2] In the first three months, blocking detachments shot 1,000 penal troops and sent 24,000 to penal battalions.
