Russia's 'outdated weapons' no match for Ukraine as 55% of forces WIPED OUT in Donbas

RUSSIA's "outdated weapons" have proven to be no match for Ukrainian defences as the latest intelligence report from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) shows 55 percent of Russian-backed forces have been wiped out in the Donbas region.

With the focus of the conflict heavily concentrated in the Donbas region in and around the strategic industrial city of Severodonetsk, Ukraine has called on the west to supply extra weapons to defend the territory. Russia has announced it has all but captured the city as heavy shelling continues, however, the cost of the operation has taken its toll on Russian personnel, with many killed or injured in the conflict.

According to the latest MoD report: “The Russian authorities have not released the overall number of military casualties in Ukraine since 25 March.

“However, the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) publishes casualty figures for DPR forces.

“As of June 16, the DPR acknowledged 2128 military personnel killed in action, and 8897 wounded, since the start of 2022.

“The DPR casualty rate is equivalent to around 55 percent of its original force, which highlights the extraordinary attrition Russian and pro-Russian forces are suffering in Donbas..

“It is highly likely that DPR forces are equipped with outdated weapons and equipment.

I think they’re trying to divert Russian forces from the boiler being setup around Lyschychansk (sp). I do think that is the strategic reason for the Ukes shelling a civilian center, otherwise it makes no sense to me.

RE: 55 percent of Russian-backed forces have been wiped out in the Donbas region.

And how many percent of Ukrainian forces have been wiped out? You can’t just report one side’s casualties without telling us the casualties from the other side.

During the course of a day here on FR, we can get an article that Russia is using “outdated” weapons and is getting wiped out, then in the same day we will get an article that Ukraine is getting hammered and their casualties can’t be sustained.

I click on these threads much in the same way that I might view a football game between two teams that I generally dislike. Don't care who wins, and sometimes both sides' cheerleaders can be entertaining.

WASHINGTON-The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, today announced the following online briefing:

DECOLONIZING RUSSIA
A Moral and Strategic Imperative
Thursday, June 23, 2022
10:00 a.m.

Russia’s barbaric war on Ukraine-and before that on Syria, Libya, Georgia, and Chechnya-has exposed the Russian Federation’s viciously imperial character to the entire world. Its aggression also is catalyzing a long overdue conversation about Russia’s interior empire, given Moscow’s dominion over many indigenous non Russian nations, and the brutal extent to which the Kremlin has taken to suppress their national self-expression and self-determination.

Serious and controversial discussions are now underway about reckoning with Russia’s fundamental imperialism and the need to “decolonize” Russia for it to become a viable stakeholder in European security and stability. As the successor to the Soviet Union, which cloaked its colonial agenda in anti-imperial and anti capitalist nomenclature, Russia has yet to attract appropriate scrutiny for its consistent and oftentimes brutal imperial tendencies.

Yes, you read that right: a discussion on the “need” to partition Russia for “moral and strategic” reasons.

Who is the Committee on Security and Cooperation in Europe, you ask?

The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, is an independent commission of the U.S. Federal Government. For over 45 years, the Commission has monitored compliance with the Helsinki Accords and advanced comprehensive security through promotion of human rights, democracy, and economic, environmental, and military cooperation in the 57-nation OSCE region.

In short: it’s another of the zillions of committees run and financed by the US Government. The US Government held a panel earlier today on the “need” to partition Russia. Let that sink in for a bit.

The article omits salient points:
These LNR/DNR troops are forced conscripts dragged off the streets of their villages and towns - even handicapped were conscripted. Now there are few men left to conscript. The people who once supported the Russians, now hate them.

The 1AK & 2AK are commanded by Russian officers down to the company level.

Both AKs were given weapons from WWI or old WWII Soviet gear; recently they were given T-62 tanks (the generation after the famous T-34 and not all that much better). The troops were expected to die.

Both AKs were ordered to do frontal attacks on ZSU strongholds and fortifications. Basically, the suicidal attacks were to keep ZSU troops from moving to more urgent areas.

The RGF considers the two AKs completely expendable and, for that reason, does not track their losses.

—”the Russians were and are woefully incompetent at getting supplies from the supply dumps to the frontline units.”

“Amateurs talk strategy; professionals talk logistics”
Omar Bradley

Phillips O’Brien, professor of strategic studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, said military experts may have been deceived by the “lavish logistical system” employed by the U.S. in the past three decades. “What the U.S. has done has made people immune to looking at the reality of logistics and just assuming it will get done,” he said.

He said the complexity of the Russian operation compounded problems of logistics. “What they were actually trying to do was logistically bonkers. They were trying to support five or six different axes of advance in a hugely spread-out arch, all the way from west of Kyiv, all of that bulge of eastern Ukraine, down to Crimea.”

While fuel consumption will depend on speed and terrain, tanks are huge gas guzzlers. Mr. Boston says that, as a rough estimate, a T-72B variant tank—the workhorses in Ukraine—would use 5.8 gallons per hour just to idle, and 1 mile a gallon or significantly less when moving.

More than 40 of the units’ tanks were abandoned or captured undamaged, according to reports verified by the Oryx website. These tanks have powerful gas-turbine engines but there is a major downside—very heavy fuel consumption.

The Russian reliance on unguided munitions is cheaper—but piles pressure on logistics. “They might need to fire 60 rounds to get the same effect as we do from one [precision] round…Obviously that gets very difficult from the sustainment perspective,” he said.

“We were in Afghanistan for 20 years”

We lost because we did not learn the lessons of four thousand years of history. Everyone going to Afghanistan to conquer the Afghan people will be defeated. Everyone.

If ever someone wants to conquer Afghanistan they must be willing to kill every last man, woman, and child. All of them. And as brutal as that sounds I mean it because if you’re not willing to do this THEN STAY THE HELL OUT OF THERE!!!

But yeah, in forty years some idiot country will think it’s a good idea to invade Afghanistan again.

It doesn’t really matter the reason, the fact is we left Afghanistan after 20 years, left behind enough equipment to outfit multiple armies and the Taliban are in power.

There is no other way to say it, we lost.

We did. It’s true.

The failed premise that you can make Muslims into people who have the Christian values of civil rights, justice, honest government, and etc. is what caused our downfall.

May as well pick up a turd by the clean end.

“recently they were given T-62 tanks (the generation after the famous T-34 and not all that much better).”

Actually there were other tanks between the T-34 and the T-62 such as the T-44, and the T-54/T-55 series tanks.

No, we lost that war because of Democrat and Marxist traitors at home.

What Soviets? Russia is no longer the Soviet Union.

Weak & hekpless? They are the catspaw of NATO/Atlantic Alliance and they are getting their butts handed to them economically, militarily and politically.

Should have bookmarked, but a recent article details the total fraud of the Uke propaganda...I recall actors being paid $250/day. Pretty cheap, considering the billions they are raking in from Biden.

All this crap propaganda does is make the world laugh.

This is the same Brit MSM source that I believe publish a headline of “Mass Russian Surrender”...14 soldiers. Russian weapons are not outdated, and their casualties are light because of how they have structured their combined arms operations. Russian artillery and tactical missiles are superior by far to the Ukrainians’, notwithstanding our arms shipments, which are not as effective as they might be (or at all) because: 1. the Russians are destroying many of them before they even reach the front because the Russians have the missiles and artillery (and battlefield intelligence) to do it 2. Ukrainians are selling a lot of the weapons on the blackmarket, 3. The Ukrainian troops have neither the training nor the logistical support to use them effectively, 4. In some cases the weapons’ performance was downgraded before they were shipped, e.g. the M777 howitzers’ advanced fire-control technology was taken off before they were sent. 5. the Russians are destroying a lot of equipment sent to Ukraine in the field because they have better battlefield intelligence. Moreover, the quantities of M777 and HIMARS, which COULD improve the Ukrainian situation, have been sent in negligible quantities. The announcements for those weapons by the Biden Administration are like photo opps.

No Ukrainian artillery has the range of the heavy Russian artillery, so the Russians stand off and pound the Ukrainian positions to pieces before they send in the tanks and infantry. When they have the enemy surrounded they simply wait the AFU out. How many Russians were killed taking Avostal? Hardly any. The same will be true for the Avot chemical works.

The Russians are losing soldiers, but at a small fraction of the rate of the AFU. Unfortunately, what tends to get posted here is nonsense from Yahoo, The Express, The Hill, WAPO, etc. It’s interesting that baseless, flagrant Biden/NATO propaganda gets posted here and commenters slurp it right up - Snake Island, Bucha, the Rape hoax, Ghost of Kiev, “Mass Surrender”, mass deaths of Russian Generals, Putin is dying (he sure as hell looked in the pink Friday in St. Petersburg), Russia is running out of troops, and so on, and the commenters here who don’t know the difference between the USSR and Russia, little to none of the relevant history, who know nothing about the involve of the WEF or the level of Zelensky’s corruption (Does “Pandora Papers” mean anything to anyone here? When the MSM was pushing the Russia Collusion Hoax, people here understood the MSM agenda rightly discounted the stories. Ironically, for the Covid hoax and the Ukraine war, many here are buying into the disinformation.

If you have any interest in what is a far more relevant and accurate view of what is happening in the most important front in the Donbass:

https://thesaker.is/sitrep-operation-z-cauldrons-and-fatigue/

The video included is interesting. AND before anyone starts denouncing the source as “Russian propaganda” (which many here seem to define as anything they don’t want to hear), give events a 2 or 3 weeks and see what develops. The description of the current situation near Severodonetsk and Lisichansk is probably about as accurate as we are going to get. What happens in the future can’t be predicted with certainty, but Lisichansk is likely to fall.
