Uvalde: Arredondo denied leave of absence; mayor accuses DPS of lying, says school will be torn down

After the Uvalde City Council voted against a leave of absence for embattled school district police chief Pete Arredondo on Tuesday evening, Mayor Don McLaughlin harshly criticized Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw for blaming local police in last month's shooting at Robb Elementary School.

It came hours after McCraw told a special committee in the Texas senate that there was "a sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor to isolate, distract, and neutralize the subject" within three minutes of the shooting, but Arredondo "decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children."

McLaughlin told Uvalde residents on Tuesday evening that since the shooting, McCraw has continued to "lie, leak, mislead, or misstate information in order to distance his own troopers and rangers from the response."

"There were no less than eight law enforcement agencies present in the hallway leading up to the breach of the door at Robb Elementary School," McLaughlin said at a city council meeting.

"Every briefing, he leaves out the number of his own officers and rangers that were on scene that day. He leaves out that during this time, every other classroom in the building was safely evacuated by Uvalde peace officers with the assistance of Border Patrol."

Uvalde residents ripped into Arredondo at Tuesday's city council meeting.

"Get him out of our faces. He does not deserve leave without pay," one woman yelled. "He failed us."

McLaughlin also confirmed Tuesday that Robb Elementary School will be demolished, saying "you could never ask a child to go back or a teacher to go back in that school, ever."

Texas DPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday evening about the mayor's comments.

Does this particular policeman have children?

If he doesn’t, there should be a workplace shooting. If you kept me from saving my wife, you deserve death.

If he has children, sue everybody until they scream. Find a shark lawyer who will drag everyone into court, make it a media circus, go and speak at churches, political events and anyway someone will let you. Don’t let up, let your children see you fight the machine.

Thinking the same here. If I recall, one of the teachers were shot and died last actions was getting a child out of the classroom throug an open window.

Nice to hear from you old timer at FR. I will not disagree at all. This useless at crunch time, skool police force is all about getting paid via the great gubbermint tit. It is a jobs program!

Individual officers were probably good and wanted to go in on the mass killer. 99% of the blame is on Pete Arredondo. Vaxxxxx impaired in my book. Vaxxxxxx impaired is also why we have a labor shortage resulting in supply chain problems and shortage. My favorite ginger snap cookies have been out for weeks at Walmart. At Aldis the refrigerated shelves for chicken are half empty or nearly bare.

Here’s the cite on the officer that was detained, disarmed and kicked off the site - it was in the Senate hearing on Tuesday, but in case you need an immediate quote for elsewhere:

It wasn’t the building’s fault, so why punish the taxpayers by teating it down? Sends students a message that buildings are to be blamed rather than our politicians.

I believe the school building is 30 or 40 years old. If they are going to do the kind of security hardening that they're talking about then it's probably cheaper to start from scratch and design a new one and then build it.

The officer’s wife, Eva Mireles, was 44 when Pete Arredondo let her die. She’s survived by one daughter, 23.

At that age... not sure which way to go on that.

IIRC, he’s unfortunately a Republican... but he and all the leadership in Uvalde need to go.

At 1:01:45 of the video link you shared, the Donut Operator commentator points out the ridiculousness of what the guilty Chief says to the active shooter. He seems to be passing the shooter helpful information about other potential targets rather than negotiating. It sounds like the guilty Chief is saying, “The only targets you have left are in those classrooms where you are.”

That's a helpful link, thanks.

I would point out that that is common in small towns everywhere I’ve been in the US. I really don’t understand why a lot of people here on FR idolize small towns as, having lived in several, I found that their governments are full of incompetence, bias and corruption.

As good a sheriff as Andy may have been, he did hire a stupid, incompetent, egotistical high school buddy for a deputy.

And you would have been tackled, pepper sprayed, tased and arrested.
The cops did a find job of controlling unarmed civilians.

The Aurora, CO shooting and Sandy Hook were both 2012. Interesting fact about the fathers.

Robert M. Holmes, senior lead scientist at the San Diego office of Minneapolis-based FICO

He has a PhD in statistics from Cal-Berkeley, a masters in biostatistics from UCLA, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Stanford. He was involved in patenting a system that detects telecommunications fraud.

Peter Lanza was a VP at GE Financial Services. Nancy Lanza is alleged to have worked at Morgan Stanley. I just did a search and got this:

https://www.linkedin.com › in › nancy-lanza-a3970836 Nancy Lanza - Sr. Registered Associate - Morgan Stanley Smith Barney ... Nancy Lanza Sr. Registered Associate at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Hartford, Connecticut, United States

I clicked on it once but should have taken a screenshot. Now when I click on it I get this:

Newtown and Hartford are 50 miles apart.

Also, the Holmes family lived in Rancho Penasquitos, CA. So did John Earnest, the Poway, CA synagogue shooter.

For all of my long life Uvalde, TX has been a corrupt toilet. Lyndon Johnson handed the presidential election to Kennedy in Uvalde with a trunk stuffed full of ballots. There has never been a fair election in Uvalde in my lifetime.

.....which asks its own question: Why did this massacre happen in the first place?
