I just read the bill. The grants for “red flag laws” aren’t specifically tied to those laws. Instead, the bill says, States can get money for implementing “crisis intervention” proceedings, which INCLUDE but are NOT LIMITED to extreme risk protective orders.
A State that doesn’t enact a “red flag” is still eligible for the grant money, if they use it for other things like mental health courts or veterans courts.
This is a hole wide enough for any State that doesn’t want a Red Flag law, to drive a truck through and STILL get the money.

I doubt there are any Dems who view this as a “big win” - looks like a big nothingburger to me. Wouldn’t have stopped Uvalde or Buffalo, won’t stop anything else. Makes it easier for prosecutors to get bs convictions, which is mostly what they do anyway...

Why should citizens read a bill Congressmen and Senators haven't read nor will they ever read?
