Shelby lasted as long as he did in the senate because he brought home pork... lots of it... for many years. He’s basically a deep south version of Robert Byrd.
Brooks is a budget hawk, a hard budget hawk, so every hand in Alabama that has been greased over the last several decades by Shelby (and that is most every hand in the state party leadership) is against Brooks. Having, then losing the Trump endorsement (which was about as carefully thought out and principles-based as the Dr. Oz endorsement) was probably the last straw for this cycle for him. Hopefully he will find another prominent role somewhere in the near future.
Katie Britt was likely a big part of the Shelby appropriations machine, but she won’t have his seniority in the senate if elected, so it remains to be seen if she can weasel into his spot on appropriations, or one with some similar influence.
Will she be a solid R vote? Sure. Will she try to change the course of Washington to one that more responsibly handles the fiscal realities of this world? No.
Britt will get over 60% of the vote tomorrow.
Good analysis

As an AL voter, we agree. In a close Senate where every single vote counts, she can not be counted on to stand for the conservative cause.
Would she vote to pass the pending gun bill now in the Senate? She would likely join the 10 who have announced support for the new gun control.
We need Mo!
I gotta disagree. He's the reincarnation of Howell Heflin, aka Foghorn Leghorn (I miss Rush).
“Hard budget hawk” should never be used to describe a guy who votes to send $40 billion of U.S. taxpayer money to a corrupt sh!t-hole like Ukraine.
