What in the world?
During her weekly press conference on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that she would support a lowering of the federal voting age to 16.
“Squad” Rep. Ayanna Pressley has also caused a lowering of the voting age to 16 and for the age to buy firearms to be raised to 21.
Pressley, a progressive House Democrat, is only one of the many members who have been calling for the voting age to be lowered.
When Fox News Digital asked why she believed 16-year-olds were equipped to vote but not mature enough to purchase a firearm she declined to answer.
“A 16-year-old in 2021 possesses a wisdom and a maturity that comes from 2021 challenges, 2021 hardships, and 2021 threats,” Pressley said in March 2021. “Now is the time for us to demonstrate the courage that matches the challenges of the modern-day 16- and 17-year-old.”
During a live Facebook conversation after her voting rights amendment failed last year she said that she was “shocked” that lowering the voting age to 16 was “polarizing.”
Efforts to lower the voting age have failed twice since 2019, while the House of Representatives is under Democrat control.
Conservatives have been against these proposals and many have said that the only reason the Democrats are pushing for this is that younger people tend to vote for them.
Due to the small vote margins, lowering the age doesn’t have enough backing even within the Democratic party to gain a majority. If the Republicans gain the House any lowering of the voting age will be unlikely.
Old enough to vote, yet not old enough to buy a gun I see how it works..gee its like the Dems know that young people are more likely to vote commie since they are taught by commie teachers to be good lil commies
If we’re going to get them young, why not throw in the fetus vote?
of course ...
O God...no. .A. THOUSAND times NO.
Ridiculous. Another day in the twilight zone.
Raising the age you can be “Aborted” and lowering the age to vote. How long before one can vote to stay alive.
Old enough to smoke. If they can. Goose a sex that is bit. Asked on their chromosomes, they deserve other freedoms.
If they want to raise the age for rifles, raise the age for voting.
Uh no.
If a kid 8 years old can decide to “change his gender” why not let 8-year-olds vote? That’s why they are pushing to allow kids to decide on their own to change sex.
I foolishly thought the age of voting was something determined by the states.
Make the voting age 5 and buying a gun 35. Brilliant!
The liberal view of things is muddled, when it comes to adulthood.
Underage teen girls are thought of as adults, when it comes to having an abortion. But adult children up to age 26 are considered dependent children under the laws and regulations related to Obamacare and health insurance. The voting age is 18, but the legal drinking age is 21. Military members under age 21 handle weapons, but legally are not to handle weapons in civilian life ,in certain states, and nationally if the liberals get their way on that subject.
Why don’t we have an age of majority to be used in all legal matters?
omg..........
Give it to ‘em at double digits, 10.
Universal suffrage is a known “real problem,” might as well bring on a quick death. They can vote for a national toy allowance. $1,000/day ought to be a fair start.
The 26th amendment mandates that 18 year olds are eligible to vote in every state.
You aren’t foolish, in that, some state could enact a lower voting age than 18. They just can’t have a higher age.
I think on every adult thing, the legal age should be 21. Because 18-20 year olds clearly do not have the same matureness as they had a generation ago.
We used to. It was 21.......................
Voting requirements still are state by state, excpt for certain qualities cannot be used to discriminate.
Amendment 26 - Voting Age Set to 18 Years. Ratified 7/1/1971.
1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
