Trump says he hasn’t asked DeSantis if he’s running in ’24: ‘I think I would win’

Former President Trump isn’t sure if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024, but he says he’s confident that he would beat him if he does.

“I don’t know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him,” Trump told The New Yorker in an interview. “It’s his prerogative. I think I would win.”

he’s already stated his attention is focused on this year’s election and not a campaign for president next year...

That's correct. But how many times have you heard a politician say something like this (I'm not running for xxx, I'm focusing on winning yyy) and then changes his mind? It can happen.

I think DeSantis is more likely to beat the Dem in 2024. That said, I will be watching this GA Senate election with keen interest. If Trump can’t win in GA, then he can’t win. He lost last time. His candidate for Governor got creamed. But if Walker beats the incumbent, then it will be entirely due to Trumps endorsement. If he loses, then it will be further evidence that Trump can’t win GA.

They hate Trump far more without a doubt but they view DeSantis as effective and capable. I’m just going off the the typical conversations I follow on DU and other commie sites.

The Left is frightened about DeSantis, who they see as Trump without the baggage, someone with a better chance of appealing to the suburban swing voters that both sides will need to win.

The conservatives I follow on Twitter query this matchup repeatedly. DeSantis consistently beats Trump about 2:1.

I think the support for DiSantos would be broad and wide. If he is the real deal, the country will have a shot.

Should Trump and DeSantis confer on a joint strategy? I think so.

If they do, should they reveal that they’ve done so? I think not.

Personally, I think it may be too late to save the country. We saw under Trump how deep it is and face it, Trump is getting old and at best fan only win one more election, then what? They won’t stop hounding him and who else is rich enough and brave enough to fight such battles long after leaving office?

It is time to save the states and local communities.....if we can.

That’s the response from a confident, he knows himself, leader.

These asshats don’t get it.

Trump is consistent. He’s had a vision. He knows he’s right, and he knows the viciousness of his adversaries.

You all her remember Ted Cruz?

Trump, held off criticizing Cruz, until Cruz struck first, then Trump came down on him with a 100 gal can of asswhip.

“Hey, Ted, what’s with the photograph of your Dad passing out pamphlets with Lee Harvey Osawald?”

And then Ted, “greatest debater in all history, he will eat your lunch”, Cruz at the debates talked about the “New York” people being different from those in Iowa.

“Hey, Ted, I know New York people and how they rebounded after 911 etc.”

Game, set, match.

As soon as Pence comes out with ANYTHING against Trump will stop him like he did Jeb Bush, with simply tagging him with a nifth moniker.

“Mike Pence, THE WIMP, thinks he has what it takes to be president, etc. The Wimp, couldn’t stand up for what was right when he oversaw the electoral votes, cause he was.... I’m not going to say the word, but it starts with the letter P,...so how does he think he’ll stand up to these tin horn despots...”

Or look at Nikki Haley... she’s toast...

THere’s no way I’d run against Trump. Because you’re done... you’re finished as a contender for anything.

No way the Commies fear DeSantis more than Trump. Aren’t either of you suspicious over how little resistance DeSantis has faced as Governor? Do you really think his accomplishments as Governor were achieved because he took on the full brunt of the Left and just outfought them? Come on. It’s all too perfect. DeSantis is being groomed to be the RINO’s chosen candidate against Trump in 2024.

But if you still need convincing, as yourself why DeSantis has had so little to say about the 2020 election steal. If he were truly MAGA he would be looking for every opportunity to talk about it rather than look for every reason not to.

I think they fear him more because he’s calm and keeps his cool.
They don’t have much of anything to use against him.
DeSantis doesn’t have Trump’s supposed negatives.
I would vote for either in the 2024 election.
I see no need to argue.

Okay, fair enough. But pay attention to how this plays out over the next two years. As nikos1121 pointed out, we learned a lot about Ted Cruz during the 2016 primary. We saw the political side that we hadn’t seen before and we saw a more complete picture of what motivates him. Mark my words. We’re going to learn a lot more about DeSantis and what motivates him when he challenges Trump in 2024. We’ve seen how Trump handles adversity. DeSantis has faced little.

Trump and De Santis are two very brilliant geniuses. Trump encourages patriots and De Santis deflates communists. I’ll take both in 2024.

The 2020 election steal is a losing message and Ron DeSantis had nothing to do with it.

Nobody wants to hear about it. To listen to Trump's "Woe is me! It was all so unfair!" is pathetic. It's loser talk. It's like your buddy who won't ever shut up about his old girlfriend who dumped him. Eventually you get tired of hearing about it and you're like, "Enough already! Move on!" Next thing you know, you don't even want to hang out with him anymore because he won't stop talking about her.

DeSantis doesn't need to talk about 2020. He won his race. Trump won his state.
