Putin ‘threatens action’ against ex-Soviet states if they defy Russia (Kazakhstan in particular)

Vladimir Putin has issued a thinly-veiled threat to former Soviet Union countries – warning they could share the same fate as Ukraine for defying Russia.

Vladimir Putin’s words came after Kazakhstan denied the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk (Picture: Getty) The Russian President made clear he would not hesitate to take the same action against them should they turn against the Kremlin, and would no longer ‘be allies’ with the country.

Mr Putin’s comments followed those of the president of Kazakhstan, who had described the pro-Russian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in the Donbas as ‘quasi-states territories’.

As Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sat metres away from him at the St Petersburg Economic Forum, he claimed Kazakhstan – which left the USSR in 1991 – was part of ‘historic Russia’.

‘What is the Soviet Union? This is historic Russia,’ Mr Putin said, before praising Kazakhstan as a brotherly nation.

‘The same thing could have happened with Ukraine, absolutely, but they wouldn’t be our allies.’

The words were interpreted as a ‘clear threat’, with a Kazakhstan-based expert claiming the Russian president had been humiliated by Mr Tokayev, and so was ‘making him aware that Kazakhstan may be Russia’s next prey’, according to The Telegraph.

Another commented: ‘He’s saying that if you are good neighbours, that’s fine. But if you step out of line and go pro-West, we can conquer your land because it’s ours.’

At the same conference in St Petersburg, Mr Putin said he anticipated Russia and Ukraine would restore relations after the ‘special military operation’ had concluded.

‘Sooner or later, the situation will return to normal,’ he added, during a Q&A session with Mr Tokayev.

It is not the first time Kazakhstan has denied the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk, with its foreign minister, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, doing so in March.

The Kremlin has been accusing Kazakhstan – along with both Ukraine and Georgia – of hosting US biological laboratories.

The international community has long-feared that Mr Putin wants to regain control of former Soviet states, particularly those that are not members of Nato, such as Moldova and Georgia.

In the midst of his war in Ukraine in April, Russia’s key military official shared its plan to expand its takeover of the Donbas region into southern Ukraine to provide corridors to Moldova – specifically Transnistria, a region claimed by Russian separatists – and Crimea

Cancerous Putin is on his gay threat jag. Muslim Kazakhstan has its own ruthless money grabbing dictator, who will make quick work of any Rooskie army boys sent to invade.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan had better start arm up, weapon up and start more training for its male youth.

Not surprised that Putin is starting to clean up his backyard, now that he FULLY UNDERSTANDS what the Neocons are trying to do to him.

Maybe they need a new Warsaw Pact that includes former Soviet States, but does not include Russia. They could come to each other’s assisatance in case of a Russian invasion.

Kazakhstan has many non-practicing Muslims and some ethnic Russians and even Ukrainians. It is about 23 percent Christian. It has over four times the land area of Ukraine and a bit less than half the population.

What an incredible statement of yours. You are basically claiming that Russia has the right to change the government in any country that once belonged to the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union and that these nations can never decide their fate. This is quintessential imperialism.

Why are defending Russia so intensely? Russia has always had a despotic government. It has no tradition of free political institutions. How can someone who supposedly loves the concepts of limited government and the separation of powers defend Russian despotic imperialism? Why do you view everything only from the Russian perspective? Why don’t you ask Russia’s neighbors what they think about Russia?

“Why are defending Russia so intensely?” should have been “Why are you defending Russia so intensely?”

That was quite a speech Putin gave at that event. While listening to it all I could think of was our President should be giving speeches like that - even on a good day Biden couldn't reach that level of delivery. Putin made Bidens speeches look worse than a elementary school kid. Like him or not Putin delivers what he believes should be said to his audience.

Yep....he’s not guessing anymore nor hoping for a better outcome with the west - that became clear under the Obama admin when Putin did his Asian and ME tours making deals with all those countries - while Obama pussy footed around.

“Why are defending Russia so intensely?”

Since when am I ‘defending’ Russia? I’m simply explaining why they’re acting in this way. The Neocons might as well get used it, as it looks to be a new set of rules on their part.

As far as I can see, you guys have a new Russia to deal with...and you can thank the Neocons in Washington for that.

Many of the Central Asian ex-USSR states have already signed up for China’s Silk Road initiative, Azerbaijan is allied with Turkey already. I wonder at what point the Chinese will decide helping Russia is more of a liability than an asset.
