Texas ‘Triple Threat’ Leads Hispanic Voters’ Seismic Shift Toward GOP

Republican Mayra Flores’s special election victory Tuesday is the latest of the mounting evidence that Hispanic voters are inching away from the Democrat Party.

Flores defeated Democrat Dan Sanchez by eight points in the heavily Hispanic 34th District, becoming the first Mexican-born woman in Congress and the first Republican to represent the Rio Grande Valley in roughly 150 years.

Now she, along with two other Republicans, Cassy Garcia and Monica De La Cruz, have found themselves at the forefront of an undeniable national trend as they work to redden the three districts covering Texas’s southern-most point.

“The red wave is here,” Garcia told Breitbart News on Friday. “Now more than ever Hispanics feel a genuine sense of belonging with the GOP. We know Hispanics are conservative on education, on social issues. We’re pro-life and pro-gun. We want lower taxes, religious freedom, and school choice.”

Garcia grew up as a Christian conservative in South Texas, worked for Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) office out of McAllen, and is now aiming to unseat Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) in the state’s 28th District.

When somebody named Garcia, or Flores, or some other Spanish surname starts including "Securing the border and getting the illegals out" in their litany of what is important to them, let alone "keep the mentally ill men out of the girls' bathroom and swim team", then it means something. In the meantime, this person sounds sort of conservative.

That was the point of my post, but I did not spell it out because I tend to short replies. You made the statement that "legal immigrants hate illegals", but I have not seen any actual evidence of that. And having some hispanic or latino politician make that statement about getting illegals out would be evidence. Having hispanic or latino voters make that comment often enough that pollsters have to acknowledge it would be evidence.

Right now that statement about legals hating illegals is somewhere a rumor and a stereotype. At least as far as I know. Do you have any evidence to change my mind? I would be happy to hear about it.

Democrats worst fear. Hispanic voters have always been far more of a wild card, voting democrat in nowhere near the numbers of Black or Asian voters and far more willing to swing Republican in times such as this when democrat are polling at record lows. In fact it's only really first generation Hispanics that vote democrat over republican by any significant amount, by the third generation Hispanic voting patterns pretty much mirror those of white voters.

A lot of it goes back to Hispanics being far more socially conservative than any other minority group and that fact that although democrats insist of lumping them into the catch all terms of Hispanic or Latino. Hispanics come from wildly different backgrounds (Mexican, Central America, Cuban, Dominican, etc). In fact many don't consider themselves a separate race at all and just call themselves white.

In addition to all the obvious reasons posted on this thread as to why Hispanics are moving toward the GOP, let me add another possibility:

After the George Floyd death, the Democrats and their media butt wipes went totally into worship mode over all things black. BLM was showered with money, black actors took over a disproportionate number of roles in advertising, a new federal holiday was created for blacks, black rioting was encouraged, and politicians everywhere were slobbering all over themselves to pander to the black population.

All the while, basically everyone else, including Hispanics, were treated as second class citizens. As Mayra Flores stated, Democrats have taken the Hispanic vote for granted.

Could it be all this has created some resentment with Hispanics against Democrats?

I work construction in Denver….legal Mexican workers would walk of the job if they new an illegal was working on the job…..it was a union job so sometimes we got new help from the local union…if they new he was illegal he was gone the next pay day….these people had more ids and we had no way to check if they were legal….ask any immigrant what they of illegals they will tell you…
