Maher: I’m ‘Sympathetic to’ People Saying ‘Stop Making Me Do Things Your Way’ on Pride Symbols – Fining Del Rio ‘Against Free Speech’
Breitbart ^ | 06/18/2022 | Ian hatchett

Posted on 06/18/2022 7:24:44 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said he is “sympathetic” to the Tampa Bay Rays players who didn’t want to wear rainbows on their uniforms and “the idea of stop making me do things your way.” And that while he thinks Washington Commanders Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio’s comments on January 6 were wrong, “he has a right to be wrong” and shouldn’t be fined.

Maher stated, “There was a football coach, his name is Jack Del Rio…and he called the January 6 riot a ‘dust-up[.]’ Now, this is a very common view that he has. I would like to — if I could talk to Mr. Del Rio, I think I could probably and hopefully convince him a little bit that it was more than a dust-up. He also compares it a lot to the 2020 protests that were going on after the George Floyd murder. Okay, I think I could also convince him there are really important differences between those two things and actually the attack on the Capitol was worse. Nevertheless, he has a right to be wrong. In America, you have the right to be wrong. They fined him. The team fined him $100,000 for this opinion. Fining people for an opinion, I am not down with that.”

This guy has suddenly found reason and logic in his 70s, when he should have found it in his 20’s - and we are all subjected to the process.

It’s all good, as he’s a liberal who sees how far off the rails today’s liberals have gone.

I think the left has gone so Stalinist and Maher has stayed pretty much the same. He has a bit of a libertarian streak against authoritarians and bullies. I’m not a fan but he isn’t as bad as most of the “entertainers” who take up the latest leftist mantra.

BFD, there is a large swath of the population to which maher is irrelevant. Count me in that group.

Bill Maher is now at a point that the lunatics he supported his whole life have moved farther left and don’t want him so his only option is to pander to the Right.

Okay, let’s hear it.

In recent times Bill Maher has shown flickers of common sense.

Yeah, I want to give him credit, but he loses me here. The focus of the Capitol ‘attack’ was against the people with whom the protesters had a grievance. The George Floyd riots happened, despite the fact there was prosecution against the officer in the Floyd incident. There WAS a response. They weren't ignored, unlike the Capitol protesters. So what did they do? They focused their anger against businesses that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the matter.

You're right. I would love to hear his explanation.

You're right. I would love to hear his explanation.

I completely understand the reason behind Jan 6, not that I condone any violence. The powers that be basically violate every precept of the constitution order. Here's the short list:

1. Bipartisan campaign reform act (GWB), Citizens United. they crapped on the 1st amendment. Scalia saved it.

2. 2nd Amendment. No comment necessary.

3. I didn't think they could possibly violate the 3rd amendment, but the CDC eviction moritorium comes pretty darn close.

4. 4th amendment: Carter Page?

5. 5th amendment: Kelo decision

6. Immigration enforment.

I mean, I could go on all day - and Liz Cheny has the gall to even mention the Constituion.

I'm not sure if you are familiar withf Wickard v. Filburn, had the decision been handed down when Washington was still at Mount Vernon, it would have been the Continental Army showing up at the Capitol, not some dufus in a viking helmet.
