Republican senator John Cornyn of Texas said he was 'done' as he walked out of Thursday's closed-door session of gun law negotiations after nearly two hours, saying he was flying home.
'This is the hardest part because at some point, you just got to make a decision. And when people don't want to make a decision, you can't accomplish the result. And that's kind of where we are right now,' Mr Cornyn said.
'I'm not frustrated, I'm done,' he added, though he said he was open to continued discussions.

You shouldn’t even be in there to begin with john! You and your ilk are betraying this nation!
Well, that’s a start. John, when negotiating there needs to be a trade-off,=. No longer are we going to give up our rights in bits and pieces. If they want something, they’ve got to give something back.
Damn....I was hoping from the headline that he walked out of the TX GOP convention from all the booing.
Good - you shouldn’t have been there helping libtards anyway ignoramus 🤪
Poor Johnny, couldn’t get them to decide to pick away at more of the Constitution..../s
These people aren’t getting reelected, right?
I voted against this jack @ss in the primary.
Bet he'll now go out and try raising money, just like he's done in the past. He uses the 2nd amendment as a prop.
The traitorous POS has no idea how “done” he really is...at least not yet.
You’re done? We’re quite OK with that, John.
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.
And yes, FReepsplainers, I know he’s just done with the discussion. For now. (Somebody please primary this RINO in 2026.)
You friggin’ gutless pansy... you couldn’t conceded fast enough three days ago, now the scumbag is trying to look like he’s holding some sort of line against his Communist butt buddies...
He’s one vote in the committee. Is the committee grid locked
or not making a serious effort to make changes to policy?
Nobody actually dares any further compromise against the 2A because there’s an election looming.
Gun rights proponents have been begging for years to have silencers removed from the NFA laws.
There's no reason for a ban on silencers. They're not like they're portrayed in Hollywood, a device that completely silences the report of a firearm. It's just a slight dB loss.
Personally, I'd like to see the entire NFA tossed in the garbage but compromise, as it is defined, means both sides give something. Not one side gives a little now and a little more later.
If the GOP is going to give our rights away, they need to demand something in return.
Way to legislate, John… - by temper tantrum…
Trading off ‘due process’ might have been a bridge too far for John Cornyn.
No one should work with democrats - democrats are the scum of the earth. They only want to include Republicans so their butt boys in the press can blame the horrible stupid ‘unintended consequence’ that will come from this on Republicans
The point of negotiation, as in the book title is “Getting to Yes”. An ‘agreement in principle’ or a ‘framework’ is fine, but eventually you have to decide on substance. Will it be the substance that saves us from hurried emotional legislation?
