Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm pushed back against the notion that there were too many regulations on oil refineries, and that was behind the lack of production.
Host Joe Scarborough asked Granholm if President Joe Biden should “level with the American people” and admit that overregulation was an issue.

Perhaps the person in charge over at the government should find out what that is.
The return of some people did something.
“Career politicians”. One of the worst ideas ever to take hold in this country.
Career bureaucrats is even worse.
John Castitiamidis—owner of media and oil, iirc—just told Kilmeade on radio that oil shortages are non-existant in Canada. Biden & Co. are fulfilling their pledge to destroy our oil industry. ‘They’re trying to destroy America.”
Finally, someone is saying it. This chaos is intentional.
CHAOS IS INTENTIONAL should be the midterm election meme hung around the neck of every damn democrat.
The Biden policies, implemented through her ARE the reason for the long term supply issue, which in fact is driving price.
If she expects us to believe that today's availability is unchanged from tomorrow's availability, and then pretend that's proof of no supply issue, she lies by omission.
Price is based upon long term availability, which her policies clearly impact. These price increases are the drivers for today's "supply issues".
Your wallet is going to be “blown away”....
The price of oil products is determined by oil futures. The price of oil futures is determined by the oil supply. The fact that Creepy Uncle Joe cancelled oil leases and quashed (again) the Keystone XL pipeline MIGHT have something to do with the price of gas.
Something else?
Like the Marxist Green New Deal?
Yeah like oil is in short supply.
There is zero money coming into oil companies from Wall Street due to environmental whackos.
She is Moron.
Closure of Gallup NM refinery is a perfect example of overregulation. She is a real idiot.
The price of refined products is also determined by supply (refinery capacity) and demand. Thanks to regulatory policies and political and judicial opposition by environmentalists and NIMBYs, in 2020 the United States had slightly less refinery capacity than it did in 1980. Over that time our population has increased by more than 100 million people. Might there be a supply/demand imbalance? I might add that the failure to build refineries over the last 40 years is a national security issue.
The US Hasn’t Built A Major Oil Refinery In Nearly 50 Years. Here’s Why

This woman was so unprepared for the position that she was appointed to by Biden who doesn’t know any more about energy than she does. If she really believes that 80% of the U S refining capacity was shut down then she is an idiot. If 80% were shut down gasoline would be so high no one could afford it. There has not been a grass-roots new refinery built in the U S since Gulf Oil built a refinery at Alliance, Louisiana in the late 1970s. Why? Because no CEO of an oil company is going to risk investing the amount of capital required because the Democrats are determined to force electric vehicles down our throats making oil refineries obsolete.
The liberals were wrong about nuclear energy and they are wrong about green energy. We are left to suffer their bad decisions.
P.S. Oil refineries that refine crude oil cannot switch over and make bio-fuels. Crude oil refining starts by boiling a barrel of crude and extracting the different compounds such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel and propane and other hydrocarbons found naturally in the crude. Bio-fuels are another totally unrelated process. This statement again exhibits her lack of knowledge about energy. She doesn’t know the difference between her B U T T and a B T U.
What, exactly, are Jennifer Granholm’s qualifications to be energy secretary?
The reason price being high is much more difficult to identify than the reasons that are NOT responsible.
1) Over regulation. Obviously this is not the cause of high price because other countries have their own refineries, do NOT have those regulations, but still have high price.
2) The war in Ukraine is obviously NOT the cause of high price because oil began its increase in price starting in December. The rate of increase appears on the slope of price. The war started in late Feb and the slope of price increase did not change.
3) Oil is international. The right wing in the US contorted definitions and conclusions and found a way to say WE ARE ENERGY INDEPENDENT!!!! It was never true. It required some focus on coal to create the declaration. Truth is Energy is not what runs the world. Oil does. Oil. Oil. Oil. The US at no point in time during the Trump years produced more oil than it consumed. The production now is 11.5 million barrels/day. Consumption is 20-21 million bpd. The 2019 numbers were 12 produced and 20 consumed. That’s not independence. So lease cancels and pipeline cancels are not the problem. They don’t help but they are NOT the problem.
So what is. Here are some offered things:
1) All oil is not created equal. US shale oil is called LTO. Light Tight Oil. Crude contains constituent parts. Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene(think jet fuel), Asphalt, Bunker fuel. Libya oil is middle distillate heavy (diesel and jet fuel). US shale is gasoline rich and diesel not so rich. This is not good. Urals oil, from the Russians, is diesel rich. It is diesel that moves food to store shelves.
2) Global oil consumption is increasing. This . . THIS . . . is the source of some rage in the mega Green people. EVs were supposed to reduce that number and It Is Not Happening. People who buy EVs are city folk and they didn’t drive much anyway. Taking them out of the consumption category has had little effect.
