What is Demand Destruction? High Pump Prices Seen Slashing US Gasoline Consumption

With US gasoline prices hovering near record $5 per gallon nationwide, analysts have said demand destruction has already set in.

"One could argue that demand destruction for gasoline has already started ... Since the start of March, U.S. gasoline consumption is 6% lower than the corresponding period in 2019," Peter McNally, analyst at Third Bridge, told Yahoo Finance.

Ukraine War Since the start of the Ukraine war, the US gasoline prices have been spiking. However, the price spiral had set in even earlier, and analysts have pointed out that prices have nearly doubled from the day President Joe Biden took office. According to the Washington Times, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was $2.40 on Jan. 20, 2021, the day when Biden took office.

Right; “demand destruction” is “give up your private vehicles”.

Unfortunately many Americans have shown they’ll give up anything - including families - to keep a vehicle so they don’t need to use unsanitary, unsafe mass transit.

A lot of talk about EV, electric vehicles, but public transportation is where they’re really pushing towards. EV is a ruse, as evidenced by their hate for nuclear and coal both essential to expanding the power grid to accommodate EV charging requirements, it ain’t happening.

well, maybe some of the people who profited during the shutdown are out buying EV’s, but most people I know have changed their summer plans. We’re $5.09/gas so families that RV’d every summer have cut back their trips.

Just because the price of gas has gone up for their cars doesn’t mean that people don’t change other things in their budgets to offset that. Restaurants here are closing weekly. Everytime I make a supply run through two areas with small shops there are more and more closing. Some of the storefronts are turning into walk-in med clinics, but thats about the only thing that seems to be flourishing.

EV are very expensive, and as the wildfires over the last couple of years in CA showed, the government can cost you both your home AND your car when they shut off the power to stop the spread of fires.

So much of our electricity (over 1/3) is still provided by coal; their arguments make no sense. It is just a war on private vehicles - and detached single-family homes (as well as the children that fill them).

It is an open attempt to lower our standard of living.

Public transportation became a much more difficult “sell” for most Americans during the COVID fiasco. The lockdowns and restrictions made people understandably fearful about riding buses and trains. And it’s impossible to justify the cost of building and operating a mass transit system when many of the people who used to be the core ridership of these systems can do their work remotely most or all of the time.

I know of a family that sends their kids to public school...but they sure do drive nice cars!

“the “bakery” was a mixture of eleven American and French soldiers.”

Expected, given the media’s capability even here to get people supporting Globalists and Neocons in their efforts to make slaves out of the rest of the world.

If I had kids, I’d rather drive a beater so they could be home schooled.

I sure did, and thankfully my wife also considered our kids more important than Keeping up with the Jones’.

"Ukraine War Since the start of the Ukraine war, the US gasoline prices have been spiking."

Bullshit. Gas prices had been trending downward UNTIL the day of Biden's inauguration, which is the inflection point from downward to upward. The Ukraine war has little to nothing to do with it.

Find an online graph of gas prices vs time that starts in 2016 and goes up to 2021....the demarkation is obvious.

Auto parts for used car repairs have skyrocketed and are hard to come by. Wait time to get cars fixed unbelievably long too.

Another way to close down gasoline powered vehicles.

I am aware of many who make long commutes to their jobs. There can be no demand destruction for a commuter who drives say 40 or even 80 miles each day to and from work.

What percentage of this country lives rural?

There is NO mass transit-—we take care of ourselves.

Some rural counties are already in trouble because their deputies have already used up the annual budget for fuel.

OBAMA promised to “Level the Playing Field”.

Blacks heard: Free phones free TV More benefits No jail for criminal behavior Jobs they couldn’t do, etc.

I heard: “I will turn the USA into a Third World Country”.

Since you asked.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/985183/size-urban-rural-population-us/

“In 2020, there were approximately 57.23 million people living in rural areas in the United States, compared to about 272.91 million people living in urban areas.”

I understand what you mean. We own an older RV and take a trip to the beach each summer. Last summer we paid $800 for fuel round trip, this year it was $1000 one way. We are more careful selecting campgrounds, choosing state parks over private campground, we’ve cut eating out and most extras to equal out the extra cost of fuel.
