~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Port, North Carolina Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) is one of the largest military terminals in the world. It serves as a transfer point between rail, trucks, and ships for the import and export of weapons, ammunition, explosives and military equipment for the United States Army and is operated by the 596th Transportation Brigade. The terminal lies between the small town of Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina, and the Cape Fear River a few miles upstream of Fort Johnston (North Carolina) and the small city of Southport, North Carolina.
Built in 1951 and opened in 1955, the facility is situated on an Army-owned 8,500-acre site on the banks of the Cape Fear River in Brunswick and New Hanover counties of North Carolina approximately 16 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina. An additional 2,100 acres was set aside on Pleasure Island (location of Carolina, Kure, and Fort Fisher beaches) as a buffer zone around the facility. The terminal is not an open post and access is restricted. The wharfs are also restricted and not accessible to the public (no landing or docking). The Cape Fear River directly in front of the wharfs is restricted and non-military traffic is restricted to transit only (no anchoring).
The port can handle up to 6 ships simultaneously and features large cranes for loading and unloading vessels. A network of 62 miles of railroad tracks move munitions and supplies around the facility. Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) is Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command’s East Coast strategic ammunition port, and is DOD’s primary ammunition seaport supporting the European, African and Middle Eastern areas of operation. As a key ammunition shipping point on the Atlantic coast, MOTSU stores and ships DOD ammunition, dangerous cargo and explosives, including small arms ammunition; artillery shells, fuses and propellants; ammunition for vehicle systems; and aircraft bombs and ammunition. Pride and Deception
The pride of your heart has deceived you.
Obadiah 1:3 Loving God, thank You for Your gentle, nudging correction. With my shoulders slumped, I murmured those difficult words.
I’ve been so arrogant, thinking I could do it all on my own. For months, I’d been enjoying successful work projects, and the accolades lulled me into trusting my capabilities and rejecting God’s leading. It took a challenging project for me to realize I wasn’t as smart as I thought. My proud heart had deceived me into believing I didn’t need God’s help.
The powerful kingdom of Edom received discipline from God for its pride. Edom was located amid mountainous terrain, making her seemingly invulnerable to enemies (Obadiah 1:3). Edom was also a wealthy nation, situated at the center of strategic trade routes and rich in copper, a highly valued commodity in the ancient world. It was full of good things yet also full of pride. Its citizens believed their kingdom was invincible, even as they oppressed God’s people (vv. 10–14). But God used the prophet Obadiah to tell them of His judgment. Nations would rise up against Edom, and the once-powerful kingdom would be defenseless and humiliated (vv. 1–2).
Pride deceives us into thinking we can live life on our terms, without God. It makes us feel invulnerable to authority, correction, and weakness. But God calls us to humble ourselves before Him (1 Peter 5:6). As we turn from our pride and choose repentance, God will guide us toward total trust in Him.
Reflect & Pray
What happens when blessings in your life become sources of pride? How can pride deceive you?
Father, protect me from pride. Please give me a humble heart.

Howdy, Kathy.
I hope it hasn’t been a zoo day Monday.
Nice to see the mountains coming back into view up there. First sighting was a couple of hours ago. Still pretty hazy with smoke though. Maybe it’ll all move out soon.

Howdy, luvie.
Ya know, ya really didn’t have to share your heat wave with us. LOL
Have you cooled off to highs in the 90s yet or is that still a little ways off?

Hey there, radu!
Well, it’s the least I could do. Misery does love company, ya know. LOL! Oh, heck no, we haven’t cooled off yet. It was 102 today. Supposedly a bit less toasty tomorrow, but after they lied about today, why believe them.
I hope your steambath doesn’t last too long.

Well, there are plenty keeping you company in your misery this week. LOL Our temps are mid to upper 90s but the heat index is way over 100 and will be all week. We “cool down” Saturday and Sunday to highs only around 90. Then back up again next Monday. This ain’t a-goin’ away any time soon. *sigh*
Still a steambath outside right now.

Were you and Gizmo able to head out to the lake at your usual time yesterday or did you play it safe and go early again?

Whoof! I’m guessing it’s truly summer already. It’s gonna be a long one. While I’m nearly....NEARLY...rejoicing that the temps will be below 100, you’re dreading the 90s. Amazing what humidity or lack thereof can do for a temperature.
I’m kind of ready for more rain. I hope it’s not another 8 months before we get some.

Actually, we did go out to the lake at the usual time yesterday. Even though it was hot, it wasn't hot enough for a heat advisory so we just went out for a few minutes, much of it in the shade.
But, we did enjoy it out there.
And here is a picture of the trees on the east side of Comanche Lake. This was taken from near the lake house dock.

It does look like it’s going to be a long summer, doesn’t it? At the rate it’s going, I’ll be looking forward to winter REAL soon, and I hate winter. LOL
I’d love to pull up the radar and see rain over your area. Y’all need it so badly. But you want the temps down a bit first so you don’t suffocate in heat and humidity. This soupy air isn’t fun.

Glad you were able to spend a little time out there at least. Gizmo didn’t seem to mind the heat too much. Happy face on that pooch. LOL

There were some clouds to the west of us earlier and I had hoped they would bring some rain, but nope. Somewhere else, but not here.
I just long for the 80s again. LOL! But not 85 at 2:40am like it is right now. Blech. Also...guess I’d better finish this movie and scoot. I hope I’m sleepy enough to actually sleep. That would be handy.
It’s a conundrum for you there. All that beautiful corn and the soybeans...and even the evil cotton...need all that moisture and humidity, but the humans could do with a bit less. Thank God for AC! How did we even survive our childhoods without it?!
