Next rule will be that producers sell 1/2 of their crops locally.
Half of Britain’s food is imported. Food security is a national security issue. Any self respecting country should be aiming to be energy and food independent by whatever means neccessary.
You can’t grow enough food locally to urban centers to feed all the residents.
Unless the real goal is to NOT feed them.
Their diet will return to the days of WWII
Just wait until Mother Government takes over ALL the food production here and abroad. That’s gonna be REALLY fun!
Government-issued Rice Cookers for all! But, sorry. No rice.

You’d think that with WWI and WWII, when Britain was unable to get a large amount of their imports delivered from overseas, because mercantile ships were being destroyed left and right by the Germans, that the island nation would have woken up, and become more independent, and started producing more of what they needed to feed their people. Britain was rationing food well into the 50’s, once WWII ended. It’s been 77 years, yet Britain still relies on a large amount of overseas imports to sustain itself.

From the later: “ The production to supply ratio is estimated to be 60% for all food in 2020 and 76% for indigenous type food (that which can be commercially grown domestically). Actual consumption of UK-produced food is closer to 54%, as a part of UK production is exported.”
There are worse ways to assure local populations can at least somewhat feed themselves during crisis than for governments, when buying food, buy from within the region the food is going to be consumed.
Could be considered a form of national security.
Don’t even have to check. Moron bureaucrats haven’t even determined if the is enough locally grown food to supply the hospitals and if their buying will destroy the market for the locals who normally buy the produce. The law of unintended consequences will reek havoc on the market supply and availability.
