Video sheds new light on how trafficking victim was taken from American Airlines Center

James Hartley Fri, June 10, 2022, 6:44 PM The 15-year-old girl who was taken from a Dallas Mavericks game in April and later found in an Oklahoma City hotel being prostituted had a passing interaction with a man suspected of being involved during the second quarter, according to a news release from the attorney representing the girl and her family.

During the second quarter of the Mavericks game at American Airlines Center in Dallas, the girl got up to go to the bathroom, according to the release. Surveillance video provided to the attorney with Fortenberry Firm PLLC showed the girl speak to a man on the concourse while they were passing each other and then rush to catch up with and follow him.

The man, who along with two others used a valid ticket to get into the American Airlines Center and then was escorted to a suite for which they did not have tickets by a former Dallas Mavericks employee, walked out of the building with the girl and spent about an hour walking around outside the center with her before leaving, according to the release. Zeke Fortenberry, who is representing the family, said in the release there is no evidence the man and girl had any prior communication.

The 15-year-old was found 10 days later at an Extended Stay America hotel where she was being prostituted, according to Fortenberry. His law firm said in a previous email to the American Airlines Center, Dallas police and the hotel that they failed the victim and her family.

Nt ao different from a, “gut feeling” which seems to be perfectly okay to reference.

Life experience plays a role in intuition - reading body language, understanding tone of voice, and being able to see signs when things are, “off”, even if subconsciously. I can’t tell you how many times my instincts have been right about something. Not 100%, of course, but when sonething is really wrong, you tend to take notice.

A fifteen y.o. girl alone in a public place in this crime-infested world is not safe, as this tale of woe proves. The girl’s father should have escorted her to the restroom area, and stood watching the door until she returned. The daughter might have acted all teenage about it, but would actually have been glad that he cared enough to be protective — and too bad if she wasn’t. Being temporarily hated for doing the right thing is a price of being a good parent.

Like many here, I suspect prior communication pending more info.

It may not have been forcible abduction, but it was most certainly kidnapping because she is only 15 years old.

You are not allowed to just walk off with someone else’s child just because they follow you willingly.

Teen girls are not rational. I speak as a father.

“are not allowed to just walk off with someone else’s child just because they follow you willingly”

I don’t think anyone would argue otherwise.

Sorry but younger teenage girls are mostly nuts.

Of course they are. They always have been. Nobody appears to be arguing that point.

Younger teen boys aren’t exactly paragons of sanity either.

…most of us tend towards appeasement not confrontation. We are more easily gaslit. We submit to authority with less question.

Not sure where you live, but it sure isn’t that way in my neck of the woods. Or the many other places I’ve lived.

There are people like that, but they certainly aren’t “most of us.” They are a small minority.

Which is exactly why women aacount for the majority of school debt, consumer debt, the divorce rate and all of the 42 percent single mother birthrate. But keep on making those strong, independent decisions without accepting any responsibility for their consequences.

i take responsibility for my decisions- i don’t care what other people do as long as it does not affect me.
If this girl decided to go off with Romeo I think she was stupid but it’s not my problem.

This story is something I haven’t looked at the minute details of.

There was a tremendous controversy over the police refusing to probe what happened to the girl as I recall the headlines.

I don’t think young teen boys are as vulnerable to personal exploitation as young teen girls. I think they are nuts in other ways, such as very aggressive personal risk taking and combativeness and lower empathy.

I don’t think it matters where I live. Most women vote liberal. That should sum it up. We vote for big Daddy government, more crime, more taxation, etc. As a whole.

Heaven knows I don’t and I am sure you don’t. I speak of the majority.

Now I don’t think adult women need nearly as much headship as young teen girls. But yeah I think we most of us benefit from a strong male leader, whether dad or husband. And when the guy is a wimp we don’t do nearly as well.

That doesn’t mean we can’t lead in lots of ways, don’t know better than some men, can’t spell, or shouldn’t be treated as legal adults!!

It’s only the married women who vote properly as a whole - which kind of proves my opinion.

I apologize. My response was misdirected.

Responsibility2nd said exactly that. “I said from the very beginning this was not a kidnapping, that she went voluntarily.”

So let me reiterate for him. You are not allowed to just walk off with someone else’s child just because they follow you willingly. It’s still kidnapping even if force is not used.

I don’t know about this girl, but I do know of another instance where a guy had been watching a school bus and taking notes on who got out, when, and where they went. This individual managed to catch a 13 year old off guard, and lured her, whereby he kidnapped her and took her somewhere and held her captive for several days, about a week. He kept her in a shed, as I recall.

After about a week, she was either released or managed to get away. She gave police a great description of where she was held. Somebody who knew the guy recognized her description of the place, and turned him in.

The victims do not always know their assailants. But the assailants do study up on their victims, either in what they can say to lure them, or something else that catches them off guard. Most of the time, only a few seconds are all that’s needed.

I would agree with you, but we would then both be wrong. I tend to agree with the authorities who are charging these scum bags with human trafficking and other felonies. But they are not being charged with kidnapping.

FTA….. In a WFAA-TV report, Dallas police said the arena was searched, and shared this about protocol for these situations: “Texas Family Code (51.03 b. 3) dictates that missing juveniles are investigated as runaways unless there are circumstances which appear as involuntary such as a kidnapping or abduction. Those cases per code are to be filed where the juvenile resides.”

It appears that the Oklahoma statute is stupid.

the consent thereto of the person kidnapped or confined, shall not be a defense, unless it appears satisfactorily to the jury, that such person was above the age of twelve (12) years, and that such consent was not extorted by threat, or by duress.

They really ought to fix that. Their human trafficking statute doubles the penalty if victims are under 18, but their kidnapping statute allows "consent" of the victim as a defense if they are over 12. Seems kind of obvious that OK is attracting traffickers because their statute is outdated. They could be tried federally, since the girl was trafficked over state lines and I gotta wonder who the fibbies are protecting by not stomping all over these lowlifes to give up the main organizers and mules. The Texas statute would allow a charge of Aggravated Kidnapping since the victim was sexually abused and trafficked. But there again TX doesn't seem to give a shit that this even happened.

I’m sure they do. But, still, it must have been one heck of a line to get her to ditch her father like that.
