MEXICO CITY (AP) — The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has authorized Russian troops, planes and ships to deploy to Nicaragua for purposes of training, law enforcement or emergency response.
In a decree published this week, and confirmed by Russia on Thursday, Ortega will allow Russian troops to carry out law enforcement duties, “humanitarian aid, rescue and search missions in emergencies or natural disasters.”
The Nicaraguan government also authorized the presence of small contingents of Russian troops for “exchange of experiences and training.”
Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told the Russian news outlet Sputnik that the measure was “routine.”
“We are talking about a routine — twice a year — procedure for the adoption of a Nicaraguan law on the temporary admission of foreign military personnel to its territory in order to develop cooperation in various areas, including humanitarian and emergency responses, combatting organized crime and drug trafficking,” Zakharova said.

Americans have moved there permanently.
One young gal I know returns periodically for the drugs to control rejection of her US-provided liver transplant. I don’t know where her money comes from.
While she’s gone from Nicaragua, her house is robbed of its windows, doors, and all appliances, so she periodically benefits the local economy.
Biden's favorite flavor of ice cream?!
Again: Everyone who thinks that, in response to this [Russian meddling in Central America], the U.S. will soon begin shelling Nicaraguan infrastructure, rocket-bombing Nicaraguan cities, sending a 40-mile-long column of tanks to capture Managua, and holding referendums there to determine whether the local population - many of whom can also speak English - want to become the 51st U.S. state, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND!
And if Trump (instead of Biden) were still sitting in the Oval Office? Would he be launching hypersonic missiles at Nicaragua in response to this Russian "meddling?"
Didn't think so!
Regards,
Then Nicaragua is no different from the Donbas, with its ethnic-Russian minority!
Time for the U.S. to launch a full-scale invasion of Nicaragua, right?
Ri-ight?
All of the pro-Putin FReepers have been arguing that the U.S. wouldn't stand for any unfriendly power establishing bases in Central America. This "Tu quoque" fallacious argumentation was used to justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
So now we only have to lean back and watch if the U.S. does the same: Violate International Law, bomb cities, target civilian residential areas, and grab land.
Regards,
;>)
What?! If WHO started shelling civilian areas? You mean if the Nicaraguan central govt. began shelling separatist areas? (Comparable to the Ukrainian government battling with rebels in their eastern-most provinces?)
Then America would invade Nicaragua and come to the aid of the separatists in the break-away areas?
And start dropping thermo-baric bombs, launching ballistic missiles, and holding referendums to see if the locals wanted to become the 51st State?
Whoever believes that nonsense, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND!
Nope, didn't think so!
Regards,
The pro-Putin faction of Free Republic keeps insisting that the U.S. would respond in a fashion similar to that of Putin's Russia. That America would likewise launch a massive invasion, if some foreign power attempted to establish bases in Central America.
I'm just trying to unmask that canard and show that it would never happen. It wouldn't even have happened under a more pro-active president like Trump.
Regards,
Trump would be providing them American training. Biden is not.
and missiles? Soon enough.
Considering the murder rate in Central America it would be safer for the Russians to stay in Donbass.
Obviously we’ve reached an impasse. You are being ridiculous and absurd.
Yup.. I did a double-take (read) too. I thought he was long gone :P
Will Ollie North please pick up the red courtesy phone ... Ollie North
Nicaragua today, Tijuana tomorrow. Of course if the Russians were really smart they’d keep their distance because we are destroying ourself faster than their tanks, planes, ships, troops, and nukes ever could.
Probably shipping their deserters from Ukraine.
And the pro-Ukraine faction on Free Republic keeps insisting that anyone who disagrees with them is pro-Putin. But hey, a lot of us are used to it: for years, we've been called "racists", "terrorists", "insurrectionists", etc., etc., etc., simply because we disagreed with previous permutations of the D@mocrat/corporate/media narrative...
;>)
I concur!
You are being ridiculous and absurd.
Yes, you've demonstrated that quite deftly. Through the use of geometric logic, you have completely refuted every statement I've made.
Oh, wait! You didn't!
You didn't even try!
Regards,

Of course, the U.S. won’t do that. We will just send in the CIA to change the regime and then send in boatloads of arms like we did the last time. Or, maybe we might even invade them like the botched Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba for regime change. Either way works.
There you go. Problem solved without all that nasty stuff. Just lie about the whole thing.
I have done no such thing - and don't appreciate being smeared by your lumping me in with others.
I merely called certain posters here "pro-Putin." They are certainly "pro-Russian" - which, today, is virtually identical with "pro-Putin."
Regards,
Can you imagine the utter mess and destruction Bidens going to leave to the next President to clean up? Not so sure if I was Trump if I’d want it.
