A Russian lawmaker called for Lithuania's independence to be repealed, submitting a draft bill claiming the Baltic republic illegally left the Soviet Union more than three decades ago.
The proposed legislation was submitted to the Russian lower house, the Duma, on Wednesday by Yevgeny Fyodorov, a member of the ruling United Russia party.
In March 1990, Lithuania became the first republic to announce it intended to restore its independence from the disintegrating USSR, under whose control it had been for five decades after the Soviet army occupied it in 1940.

Here’s a tbought, Vlad, how about returning East Prussia to Germany? That is long overdue.
Damn that NATO and Soros!
LMAO
How will the pro-Russia folks somehow justify this?
Has nothing to do with anything they claim about Russia’s justified doings in Ukraine.
This is soviet style rhetoric and breast-beating. Nuking the usa and uk. Saying only mutants will survive. Saying they are doing things to Ukraine because ukraine is pro-gay. Good grief.
Really, the timing? After 30 years they now go to war. If anyone believes them they’re nuts. They sound unstable and soviet in their words.
“A Russian lawmaker”. NOT Russia.
Newsweek trying to get clicks like everyone else writing hyperbolic headlines. Gotta get paid I guess.
This is what happens when you coddle tyrants.
It’s time to stand up to this bully.
Yep, but Biden bots can’t understand that, and are crazy to even turn to unreliable Newsweak.
Russia has its Democrats too…
This is bad journalism, because it doesn’t mention what inspired this bill from a single lawmaker.
A Lithuanian politician called for revoking its signature on a treaty from centuries ago, so that Smolensk (in Russia) would be returned to Lithuania.
A side effect of this is that the other Baltic states would also be returned to Lithuania (Latvia and Estonia), revoking their independence. I don’t think the Lithuanian politician thought about that part
Proof that this was in response to the Lithuanian politician:
Well, there are three or four Russian speakers there. Isn’t that “the usual” excuse.
I dont know
The excuses generated are to me, inherently soviet russian in their sound, whatever they are
There is nothing German born Leninist Klause Schwab’s globalist WEF bosom buddy Putin can do, which wouldn’t be praised and worshipped by CFP/FR Putinists —

Very easily. They will claim "Lithuania is chock full of Nazis! We must de-nazify them!" Only problem is, they know Lithuania (with their NATO allies) would beat them to a bloody pulp. So they will talk crap and threaten nuclear war. This is why they hate the idea of Finland and Sweden joining NATO, as threats to the Baltics become even less realistic.
This is Newsweek which has all the credibility of the Daily Mail. 🙄
But no, Russia. NO.
For those unaware, the Soviet Union was punished for its surrender to Germany after WWI. Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania all gained independence and territory at Russia’s expense. They regained some after WWII and then lost it with the breakup of the U.S.S.R. I think Russia would like to get all of it back.
See, this type of comparison is a not-right-in-the-head justification.
Plus the fact they have given multiple differing weird reasons for ukraine.
Further if you are so much wanting peaceful relations and ukraine is our brothers and sisters, that your solution to this peace is to start an open war...how sensical is that?
This is Putin legacy building before he dies.
Time to break the news to vlad; the US has decided to anex Russia!
To Germany? So it can be filled with Muslim migrants?
