MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A garbage company has stopped picking up yard waste in at least seven metropolitan cities due a lack of drivers.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Thursday that Waste Management confirmed Thursday that it had suspended yard waste service in Robbinsdale, Stillwater, Columbia Heights, Little Canada, St. Anthony, St. Paul and Vadnais Heights due to a staffing shortage.
Company spokeswoman Julie Ketchum said high demand for people with commercial driver’s licenses has created the shortage. She said the yard waste pickup suspensions could last weeks and could expand to other cities going forward.

Oh man if that happened here it would go South fast, the way the houses are packed in Broward county FL.
I wave to all the trash truck drivers. Back in the 70s, the trash trucks had big slogans on them. “Free Snow Removal”. Free Wedding Catering”. It was hilarious.
One lady trash truck driver, recently, actually got out and cleaned up some trash that fell while dumping the can in front of my house. I watched and was very impressed. I wave to her all the time now. And she says hi.
In my state anyway, you must pass a physical to get a commercial driver’s license. A friend of mine barely passed because of his high blood pressure. The doctor helped him by being, shall we say, a bit creative when filling out the form.
I wonder if younger folks are having trouble with passing the drug screening.

Folks will take their garbage bags and drop them off behind the Target stores..in the dumpster.
Waste management also requires a clean pee test.
And yes they need a commercial class b license and a health card. (Comes with a doctor visit)
Maybe 10 years years ago the garbage men in our area went on strike. They were making an average of $110,000 a year iirc. And everyone had the special bins that could be picked up by the lift arms, so they rarely had to get out of their trucks.
Hopefully not Chinese restaurants.
Lots of “alternative” types were available to protest and riots all night long last summer. Apparently it pays pretty good to have all that time for such “activities.”
One of my kids is a Class A trucker. He has no problem with the drug test. Doesn’t do drugs. Easy.
He’s interviewing with one of the big OTR companies.

Their biggest problem is just showing up for work.
Have they linked this to Putin yet? If not, when will they get to doing that?
The drug test is what’s keeping most out of truck driving. To many pot heads out there.
