NATO Nations See Differing Paths as Ukraine War Enters Uncertain Stage

BRUSSELS — Faced with the prospect that the war in Ukraine will be long and grinding, NATO countries are divided on how best to manage the next stage of the conflict and the uncertain period that promises to follow.

Central European members like Poland and the Baltic states want a total break with Moscow and an effort to bring Russia to its knees, two senior Western officials said. They worry that anything that Russia can present as a victory will do serious damage to European security.

But other nations believe that Russia cannot be easily subdued and that the war’s outcome is likely to be messy — more exhausting cease-fire than resounding victory. Countries like France, Germany and Turkey want to keep contacts with Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin

Looks like as with Azovstal Russia is now offering the opportunity for Ukrainian soldiers to leave their weapons and flee without being attacked.

▪️The Russian armed forces are completing the liberation of the city of SVYATOGORSK in the Donetsk People’s Republic and the surrounding area.

▪️In order to prevent the retreat of the Ukrainian troops, the Ukrainian nationalist formations acting as barrage detachments blew up the bridge across the Seversky Donets River today.

▪️Under the onslaught of Russian units, the remnants of the battalions of the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 81st Separate Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, cut off from the main forces and supplies due to the undermining of the bridge, abandoned military equipment along with weapons and dispersed along the coast.

▪️Up to 80 Ukrainian servicemen crossed the river by swimming. Fire on them from the side of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation purposefully did not open. Refusal to defend the Kiev regime is not cowardice, but the only right thing to do, and not cowardice , which allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to save their lives.

We call on all military personnel and members of the territorial defense units of Ukraine to follow this example and stop thoughtless resistance.

▪️The Russian armed forces guarantee all Ukrainian servicemen and members of the territorial defense units who voluntarily laid down their arms to be treated with dignity and return to their families.
