House Democrat Seems Just Fine With Disenfranchising the Poor in Gun Control Proposal

New AR-15-style guns range from $500 to over $2,000 depending on location, NBC News reported. That means a 1,000% tax on the weapon would add $5,000 to $20,000 to their final sales price — and would probably keep it out of reach from many younger Americans.

Some details of the bill still aren't finalized, such as when the tax would kick in and what to do with any revenue raised. It's also unclear how much money it would generate. One out of every five weapons purchased in the US in AR-15 style rifle, per the National Shooting Sports Foundation in a 2014 court brief. Gun sales have surged since then and reached their second-highest level recorded last year.

Law enforcement agencies and the US military wouldn't be subject to the tax, Beyer said. The legislation would also apply only to future assault weapon sales — and not to the 20 million AR-15-style rifles already estimated to be in circulation across the US. Other guns used for hunting and other recreational purposes would also be exempt.

Bullets wouldn't be subject to the new tax. But high-capacity magazines that can carry more than 10 rounds of ammunition would be aggressively taxed at that level.

Wouldn't want them peons getting uppity and stuff so just do like this 'badministration' has done with most everything else. Price it out of reach. Just another useless attempt to punish millions of law abiding citizens for the evil perpetrated by a few mental cases. Contact your CONgress critters even if you already know their positions.

Disarming private citizens and turning police officers into social workers is NO system that benefits free people!

I’ve always believe that they wouldn’t go after the guns directly - they’ll just tax them out of existence. With certain credits and extreme penalties, they’ll have gun owners bringing them in voluntarily.

There won’t be any jack-booted thugs breaking down doors - just nasty pasty-faced IRS agents destroying your financials.

Not even a whisper of a chance of becoming law. They’re having a hard time getting pretty modest laws through as it is.

The communists do rabble-rouse a lot, but then again they did pass the AWB in the 94. Never know, that’s the problem being a gun fan. It’s always at the whim of the elite if they’ll let you have your rights denied or not.

Dems are interested in one thing, themselves and power over the voters.

They do realize that those who understand weapons can buy parts at a gun show and build their own?

Marxist-socialists democRATs are the best guns and ammo salesmen on the planet and they're too stupid to know it. Just as 9mm ammo prices were coming down the diaper wearing dictator just had to give a speech.

A tax like this wouldn’t just disenfranchise the poor; it would essentially destroy the market for the targeted weapons.

Very few will pay 10 times the value of a gun when other options are available. Eventually, the manufacturers will stop making them due to a lack of sales.

One out of every five weapons purchased in the US in AR-15 style rifle...

So, roughly 20% of sales, yet used in what, a tiny fraction of one percent of criminal activities involving firearms? So small of a percent it is lost in rounding errors? But sure, AR-15s are the problem. ;-/

"All" we have to do is get rid of AR-15s and violent crime will stop! Just like...

...we have to get everyone vaccinated or no-one is safe...

...a little inflation is good...

...the Taliban won't hurt anyone with the hundreds of thousands of weapons we abandoned to them...

...Epstein committed suicide...

...the 2020 election was fair and fraud-free...

...we can send tens of billions in weapons to Ukraine to help them restore their national borders, but can't finish protecting our own...

...all those racist statues had to come down, everything is fine now...

...all those racist brand names, team mascots, street names, etc. etc. had to change, everything is fine now...

Climate change! The sky is falling, the seas are rising! Wait, aren't we all supposed to be swimming by now?

...monkeypox!...

And on and on it goes. Folks, when you get fatigued riding the media circus carousel just step off, step back. Once you stop believing a single word they say it all becomes clear - it is just a carousel full of clowns.

Work around. Sell the stripped receiver for 1 cent and then sell the kit to assemble it for full price + whatever the receiver cost the FFL dealer.

I believe the reason this is being considered is because it avoids the Senate filibuster via budget reconciliation.

So the Dems only need 3 Republican traitors, assuming "Yacht Boy" Manchin and "Switch Hitter" Senema vote against it.

It seems like those po folks should have a right to self defense without causing them to spend the rent and grocery money on fees, licenses and taxes to buy a firearm. The extreme far lefties are disenfranchising the po folks again.

Do we even have any more budget stuff to vote on?

And don’t forget: The Senate Parlimentarian AIN’T NO JOKE. She’d likely shoot down any gun control sneak-ins to any budget deals.
