Gov. Ron DeSantis once again swept a straw poll for 2024 presidential candidates at a Colorado conservative conference Saturday, beating out former former President Donald Trump and other possible contenders.

The attendees of the Western Conservative Summit, organized by the Centennial Institute, a think tank associated with Colorado Christian University, approved of a potential DeSantis candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at 71%, with Trump coming in at 67%.

The straw poll was conducted based on an "approval" system, which allowed attendees to vote for more than one candidate that they could support.

DeSantis won the 2024 straw poll last year at the Western Conservative Summit, narrowly edging out Trump. DeSantis received 74% approval to Trump's 71% in 2021.

DeSantis was a nobody...a non politician.

BS... He's yet another lawyer turned career politician.

Tell me, what private sector jobs/careers has DeSantis held? If you could just name a couple. Thanks.

I would prefer 4 years of Trump and then 8 years of DeSantis. That would be 12 years of decent leadership.

LOL

Trump’s “personnel” choices led to one hell of an economy, relative peace and fear/respect from our international adversaries. I sincerely wish, you and your fellow FREEPERS could do better.

His navy service and attachment to US Seals One and his deployment to Iraq are enough for me. Founding member of the Freedom Caucus works too.

He consistently defended Trump during the whole Mueller charade......

stop basing the guy.....he’s a Trump supporter.....

That is true if Trump were running against Biden, but if Biden isn’t the nominee, then things might be different.

Personally, I don’t think people like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren or Hillary Clinton have a chance to come back and get the nomination.

I think someone else will emerge.

If the Democrats take a real beating this year in the midterms, one Democrat will win big and is someone to look out for, Gavin Newsome, Governor of California will win reelection by a huge margin, it will be a fraudulent win, but he will win. Look for someone like him to emerge as a real contender.

If Trump were running against Newsome, all bets are off at that point, especially for the 2-4% of the public that will decide the election.

Plus, you can’t discount all the cheating that will happen which could easily affect the outcome.

DeSantis did and does one hell of a job here in Florida. We Floridians were open since May 2020. Kids were allowed to go to school since August 2020. He takes on the “Woke” crowd successfully all the time, i.e. Disney. He takes on the MSM very effectively. He outlawed the 1619 project in schools and insists that the millions of tragic and violent deaths that Communism is responsible for be taught instead. He promotes the “You loot we shoot” philosophy, again very successfully. He's good. Best Governor in my lifetime, but hey I am an immigrant from Illinois. ; )

Uh huh, but the man has never held a private sector job, all government positions.

Tell me, why would millions of private sector workers support someone who's never held a single real job in the private sector? How can he even relate to the tens of millions in the private sector?

DeSantis can’t help but do better. Trump, on the other hand, is perfect for the role of eminence grise.

I have not thought about the question as you’ve explained it here, but it certainly does make a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing it.
