DeSantis beats Trump in 2024 straw poll a second time at Colorado conservative summit

Gov. Ron DeSantis once again swept a straw poll for 2024 presidential candidates at a Colorado conservative conference Saturday, beating out former former President Donald Trump and other possible contenders.

The attendees of the Western Conservative Summit, organized by the Centennial Institute, a think tank associated with Colorado Christian University, approved of a potential DeSantis candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at 71%, with Trump coming in at 67%.

The straw poll was conducted based on an "approval" system, which allowed attendees to vote for more than one candidate that they could support.

DeSantis won the 2024 straw poll last year at the Western Conservative Summit, narrowly edging out Trump. DeSantis received 74% approval to Trump's 71% in 2021.

I don’t think too highly of Omarosa.

The only time you see anything about Trump from Fox News, it's negative Trump.

They were instrumental in betraying him (and you) in 2020 and they'll do it again.

Fox News Corp, hates Trump. Plain and simple.

DeSantis is next on their list if need be.

Do you think the media will be more tolerant of DeSantis?

DeSantis won't care. He won't try to please them.

And his Press Secretary, Christina Pushaw is a pitbull on Twitter. She eats these lefty bluecheck journalists up and spits them out.

The Colorado GOP is NOT conservative nor pro-American. They are Associate Democrats at best.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
They’re stooges doing the bidding of the trash that’s moved there from the west coast.

There aren’t any conservatives left in Colorado. Dumbass Californians took over that state a long time ago. Colorado is just another California but with trees and mountains.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Well and truly stated and every word of it. It’s a damn shame that beautiful State has been politically destroyed by the leftist trash from the left coast!

I like DeSantis if he runs. They like to hit Trump over his business failures, but he’s a risk taker - no guts, no glory. I’m pretty confident that Trump could clean up the supply chain and economic chaos caused by leftist extremists bent on revolution. He knows how the swamp works, wants to correct it, but didn’t have political infrastructure to clean it up. On January 20 he needs to be ready to fire and replace all of the swamp creatures at the top. Then the toppers can fire leftist minions below them. His picks last time were awful and he needs to be ready with loyal replacements who know government. He needs to go on TV more and address the nation. You don’t have to invite the swamp media. Tweets are fine, but not enough and they can be twisted out of context - people can misunderstand or twist its meaning. Don’t let the democrats and their media propaganda apparatus control the messaging. They got way out of control and were burning the country down in the first term. I like Trump/DeSantis, but it’s early and there’s the nut jobs in congress who are busy with any trick they can find to keep Trump off the ballot.

Ah, good morning HM my good FRiend. I thought you might post on this thread.

DeSantis and Trump are both good people, and they have more in common than not.

That said, DeSantis appears more inclined to follow Ronald Reagan's example of not putting folks on the defensive unnecessarily, and not arguing with nobodies, all while dealing from a position of strength and putting our interests first.

If it got down to a tiebreakers,

1. Age

2. Temperment (and propensity to make foolish tweets when silence or at least a day of thinking about it would serve best). GOPers shouldn't have to cringe every other day at someone's unadvised tweets.

3. Attractiveness to indies

4. Worldliness and knowledge of our Military (including status as an honorably serving Veteran)

5. Ability to establish and keep alliances within Party.

>>DeSantis/Paul 2024<<

DeSantis could have his pick of conservative running mates for certain. Many great tickets come to mind.

Not sure I’d choose Rand Paul because losing him in the Senate would leave a huge hole. Way too effective in the Senate.

True, any Republican will be viciously attacked. But my impression is that DeSantis would be much less likely to shoot himself in foot, as Trump did regularly. We love to belittle voters who preferred a senile old crook to "mean tweets," but let's face it: Trump showed very poor judgement on many of his tweets. Yes, Rosie O'Donnell is a fat ugly pig, but it's just plain unseemly -- and vulgar -- for the president of the United States to say it. And his choice of personnel and deferring to his ditzy daughter and scheming son-in-law suggests poor judgement too. DeSantis can't help but do better. Trump, on the other hand, is perfect for the role of eminence grise.

>>Can’t allow the usual suspects to divide the party going into 2024. Like it or not Trump is the shot caller this time around.<<

I’m not convinced Trump is running in 2024. Besides, establishment republicans WILL water down the primary vote with a dozen or more candidates in an attempt to circumvent another Trump candidacy. You can count on it.

DeSantis has/is proving his conservative pro-American credentials. If I were a betting man...and I am, I’d place my crisp $100 bill on a strong DeSantis candidacy backed by Donald J. Trump.

DeSantis; “I don’t support giving taxpayer dollars to professional sports stadiums,” he said. “Companies are free to engage or not engage with whatever discourse they want, but clearly … it’s inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private corporation.”

And you support DeSantis for president because he don’t support giving taxpayer dollars to professional sports stadiums? Kind of a no brainer huh? C'mon!

DeSantis was a nobody...a non politician. He has earned his conservative spurs.

Charlie Crist won’t even get close to DeSantis.

Doubt Trump could beat him in Florida ......

“… but some percentage of the population would never for vote for someone facing criminal charges, regardless of their validity.’

Thanks to Biden And the most execrable presidency in history that percentage might be smaller than many imagine. The people who voted Biden but now say they’d vote Trump is getting larger by the week. Some of the people who have expressed this has shocked me. One kid being raised by two moms who ABSOLUTELY despise Trump has said that they both would vote for him now.

Great and all but irrelevant. No matter how many times the media tries to push this, DeSantis is not running for president in 2024.
