Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Saturday her connection to her "indigenous heritage" was awakened while protesting the Dakota Access pipeline with Native American tribes at Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
Responding to a comment on Instagram, Ocasio-Cortez said she wanted to connect more with the ancestral roots of the Taíno, an indigenous people group of the Caribbean, and that American Indian tribes welcomed her as family.
"One of the things that first started awakening and connecting me in a deep to my indigenous heritage was connecting to the Lakota Sioux at Standing Rock," Ocasio-Cortez says in the video.

Caligula appointed a horse the Roman Senate. Maybe the people of New York are dumb enough to send this braying ass to ours.

The whole commercial played up on the Spanish (as in Spain) schtick: Moorish background, Spanish guitar. All baloney. In fact, there is no such thing as "Rich Corinitian Leather". It was a name they made up just to use in the commercial. PT Barnum at his best. AOC has more Spaniard then Squaw in her. If AOC is an an Indian, then so is Elizabeth Warren.

Puerto Ricans haven’t got an “indigenous heritage”. They lost all that after becoming a totally homogenized mestizo culture over 500 years. They are now their own thing, Puerto Ricans, who speak a standard form of Spanish. The only trace of the indigenes is in their genetics. I suppose there are always some that think they want to revive a fantasy.
Mexicans can to some degree claim some sort of “indigenous heritage” as large parts of their population are still pure or close to pure indian and their languages are still living tongues in daily use. But even most Mexicans don’t really have such a heritage, they too are mostly mestizos with no living connection to their Indian ancestors, albeit there is a considerable holdover of Indian-derived customs, words, etc.

I remember a TV talk show in possibly 1969 or so where Timothy Leary expounded upon the spiritual elegance and total superiority over the West of the Aztecs and their closeness to the earth and nature, blah blah. an anti-drug fellow in a suit and tie countered: Their drug use which went way up quickly at one point is the best explanation for their savagery in cutting open living people and sacrificing children. They never regained their cultural prominence. Leary looked sort of surprised but couldn't give a good rejoinder. Cortez conquered the Aztecs with less than 500 Spanish soldiers. They had a lot of help from other indigenous people who were fed up with being exploited and enslaved and ritually sacrificed by the Aztecs.

What a fraud that guy was. Total charlatan. You can't tell me that continued regular LSD use does not have long-term and permanent neurological effects. And total enlightenment or a higher consciousness or whatever you want to call it cannot be archived by simply taking a drug.

Sure, he fried his brain and mistook that for enlightenment.
But he was a fraud before he started taking LSD.
His research wasn’t up to snuff for Harvard at the time (today that may no longer be true). He figured out he could make himself un-firable by turning on all kinds of celebrities, thereby making himself a celebrity. I’m sure other Harvard faculty members turned on with him too.
