Voters Say They Want Gun Control. Their Votes Say Something Different.
NY Times ^ | 06/03/2022

Broad public support on the issue may not be as broad as polling shows or as Democrats hope.

It’s one of the most puzzling questions for Democrats in American politics: Why is the political system so unresponsive to gun violence? Expanded background checks routinely receive more than 80 percent or 90 percent support in polling. Yet gun control legislation usually gets stymied in Washington and Republicans never seem to pay a political price for their opposition.

There have been countless explanations offered about why political reality seems so at odds with the polling, including the power of the gun lobby; the importance of single-issue voters; and the outsize influence of rural states in the Senate.

But there’s another possibility, one that might be the most sobering of all for gun control supporters: Their problem could also be the voters, not just politicians or special interests.

When voters in four Democratic-leaning states got the opportunity to enact expanded gun background checks into law, the overwhelming support suggested by national surveys was nowhere to be found. Instead, the initiative and referendum results in Maine, California, Washington and Nevada were nearly identical to those of the 2016 presidential election, all the way down to the result of individual counties.

National Polls Overstated Voters’ Support for Background Checks

State referendums in Maine, Nevada, Washington and California drastically underperformed expectations. Instead, support for background checks mirrored a state’s partisan composition.

Hillary Clinton fared better at the ballot box than expanded background checks in the same states, most on the same day among the same voters.

The usual theories for America’s conservative gun politics do not explain the poor showings. The supporters of the initiatives outspent the all-powerful gun lobby. All manner of voters, not just single-issue voters or politicians, got an equal say...

Gun control polls well until it's time to vote for it, and then even in blue regions, it fails. Republicans never seem to pay a price.

Liberal gun control supporters are mystified.

Record gun sales for the past couple of years, and 25 out of 50 states having Constitutional carry says otherwise.

NY Times trying to imprint electorate with “You all want gun control, but you won’t vote for it!”

Call Dominion. Make a blue wave to disarm Americans.

I practice gun control often. Nothing satisfies like rounds on target.

Normal people realize the bad things that happen in the world won’t be prevented by punishing hem.

Always a subtext of “They aren’t listening to us” outrage and confusion at the NYT. Hard truth: polls can manipulate public opinion or measure it, not both. If you weaponize them, you lose them.

It is a visceral reaction to deadly crime.

What adult woman wants to be defenseless to rapists?

What man head of household does not want to protect his family and woman?

With rising crimes, stories of gangs following suburban shoppers home, Soros DAs letting violent criminals out with no bail. With police that take an hour waiting just outside before attacking a child killer...

You can SAY to a pollster, yes, please no guns! But behind the voting booth curtain your heart knows that will leave YOU defenseless.

Speaking of a Blue Region, these stats are hugh!
https://www.ammoland.com/2022/06/wa-concealed-carry-rebound-7000-new-licenses-in-may/?ct=t(RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN)#axzz7VFoSyLeo

The state is pretty much controlled by the libs that live in the 3 counties where the new licenses are coming from. The same cognitive dissonance infected lot also routinely vote for anti-tax citizens initiatives while simultaneously voting for the rat bastards that go immediately to work negating the citizens initiative! SMH.

This state is also a very strong CC state. Go figure.

Gun Control is a steady hand and a beady eye

Aim small miss small.

Officers first

I think one of the biggest issues when people say they want more gun control is, most folks don’t have any idea about the process to buy a gun.

Democrats and their COVID stimulus checks will never comprehend how much they’ve done for the gun and ammunition industry.

Intermixed in those 3 counties are quite a few Conservatives that got stuck, hunters, outdoorsman.

Once outside those counties you’d never know Seattle existed.

Absolutely beautiful state. Shame it’s so tarnished by the liberals.

They have an innate way of effing everything up, don’t they?
