Reminder: Foreign volunteers in Spain, including those of the so-called Lincoln Brigade, were all Communists. (Just in case somebody might in this context consider making some kind of allusion to their “service”.)

In the background of the vid, I saw a man with a Republic of Georgia flag emblem and he had a gray beard about like mine. I felt guilty right away for not being there. I often have a limp but still walk miles and still skateboard.
Many Ukrainian recruits have fired less than a few hundred live rounds in their entire lives. I’ve fired over 20,000 rounds from 22 short to 90mm recoiless rifle and that is not counting crew-served weapons. If I could meet up with a good bunch like those guys, if things went to smash, at least I would have good company to die with. I hope those fellas kill lots of invaders.
This is not an ideological civil war like Spain, and foreign troops served on both side of that war.
This is a Russia (Putin) initiated limited war of conquest that went awry from the outset. He is fighting to gain territory and retain Russia’s position as a major power.
Ukraine is fighting a total war of national survival.

Watching the first video I noticed the Australian volunteer said (about his unit) “we’re ALL going to get back to our families”.
Such bravado is not unexpected or unusual in young, inexperienced soldiers but will quickly evaporate once the inevitable carnage begins for them. I hope he is among those that do actually make it back to their families in one piece. Many won’t.
