Daily Record ^ | June 2 | By Peter Davidson

The Queen has seen politicians come and go during her 70 years on the throne, however she has always made time to wine and dine US Presidents.

During her reign there have been 14 US Presidents and the Queen has met all of them, bar one.

Lyndon B. Johnson, who took over from John F. Kennedy after he was assassinated in 1963, is the only US head of state never to meet Her Majesty.

And, despite being Princess Elizabeth in 1951 she still met the US President (Harry S. Truman) at the time while she was on a tour of the country.

Throughout the last seven decades the Queen has given official state visits to just three presidents (Trump, Obama and Bush Jnr).

So, here's all the times the Queen has met US presidents:

Harry S. Truman

When King George VI was on the throne the Queen went to America to visit the US President when she was still a Princess.

The Queen was accompanied by her husband Prince Phillip on the trip in October 1951.

Dwight D. Eisenhower

In 1957, the Queen headed stateside for her first trip to the United States since her coronation following her father's death in 1952.

Dwight D. Eisenhower put on a state banquet for Her Majesty. At the dinner the US president wore a British Order of Merit that had been awarded to him by King George VI

Yet you took the time to click on the link and

Reminds me of the antique my father put over the fireplace that reminded me of the American Revolution and wondering if it would break my shoulder, should I find myself in similar circumstances. Long live the Queen, God save the Queen...and keep her influence in her own country!

Same here. Why in the world would any patriotic American slobber over this old broad?

We had to chase her ancestors out of here twice in order to have a country.

We’re Americans. We don’t bow to any monarch.

I’ll never really understand the whole monarchy thing and loyal subject thing. My mindset is those guys in government are my subjects, I am one of the land’s “sovereigns”.

But all that being said, I do have some respect for this queen. I was in South Hampton on the QM2 (NY to England transatlantic) during her 60th celebration. Big celebration on the ship, put her speech to the nation on every TV. Listened to her speech and came away impressed that she did seem to care about her subjects. I do like how she kicked Andrew to the curb, rather than do a big coverup and defend.

loyal subject thing

The concept of 'subject' has not had any legal or constitutional meaning in the UK for the last century, and de facto long before that. It's only ever used in the anachronistic language of formal state occasions, where it's retained, along with the pantomime costumes etc, mainly for the entertainment of (especially American) tourists.

I know technically that is all true, but many to me they do seem to have that mindset.

So why is she really missing all of these events. Can she only function for a short time...some gossip sites are claiming it is to avoid Netflix trying to get pictures. The St Paul’s thing was carefully orchestrated so no pic with William. They want a pic with the queen and lilibet.

She either is in really bad shape or it’s something to do with Harry..or both..

She represents the country of America’s mother tongue.

My family arrived here In the late 19th century speaking a different tongue. That tongue was quickly discarded as my great grandparents insisted that English be spoken. How things have changed.

they do seem to have that mindset.

Well, no. In the last few weeks, prompted by this event, there's been no shortage of op-eds in the British media on the continuing significance of the monarchy, pro- or anti-. I'd be willing to place a bet that 'subject' (either the word itself or the concept) doesn't appear in any of them. It's simply not an issue here.

It does seem to be an issue when Americans talk about the monarchy, presumably an (entirely reasonable) legacy of what is taught in schools about the events of the 1770s.
