The Queen has said she is "inspired" by the goodwill of the nation as celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee begin.
In a Jubilee message, she thanked the public for organising events and said "many happy memories" would be made.
Millions are gearing up for street parties to mark the monarch's 70 years on the throne over the four-day bank holiday weekend.
A new official photograph of the Queen at Windsor Castle was also released.
As well as community celebrations across the country, there are a series of official events, starting with Thursday's Trooping the Colour parade and ending on Sunday with a Jubilee Pageant through London.
The monarch said: "I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm."

Yes, people here are in a festive mood.
I can't see why everyone is happy when petrol (gasoline) is $9.16 per US gallon. Fortunately, my rental car is a diesel that gets 50MPG.
I was 8 and saw the coronation on our new TV. All I remember is the the heavy crown. It was pretty amazing event at that age. A New Queen...and it’s 70 years later.

Wow. Time flies! :)
For many the Queen represents a kind of stability and continuity.
I believe Kate will do the same in her position as Queen Consort. She's just lovely.
I was in London two weeks ago, and the celebration preparations were really getting going. The excitement was everywhere! They needed this boost after the tough pandemic experience.
Agree.
They need to skip a generation (Charles, ugh..) but this isn’t possible.
Yep, but the queen just might outlive Charles.
Of note, the rules for succession were changed in 2013.
"The Succession to the Crown Act (2013) amended the provisions of the Bill of Rights and the Act of Settlement to end the system of male primogeniture, under which a younger son can displace an elder daughter in the line of succession. The Act applies to those born after 28 October 2011. The Act also ended the provisions by which those who marry Roman Catholics are disqualified from the line of succession. The changes came into force in all sixteen Realms in March 2015."

Been looking at pics from the British enemedia.
So far the vast majority of crowd pics are tight shots.
I suspect turnout for this may be underwhelming.
Only Queen I’ve ever known and she has been amazing as a consistent world leader.
It will be mildly disconcerting when she passes as something that was always there is suddenly not.
So I don’t follow the machinations of British royalty: Is Charles not next in line?
”...70 years on the throne...” That’s the worst case of constipation that I’ve ever heard of.
Lol! That sounds like something a Scotsman might say.
I am FB friends with several of the organists at The Blackpool Ballroom, they have really decked out the place for the Jubilee..
Yes, he is - unless he predeceases the Queen, he will be the next King, with Camilla as his Queen Consort. Then William is next, with Katherine as his Queen Consort. Then George, who is still a small child at this stage.
Parliament can alter the order of succession (the Queen cannot) but is extremely unlikely to.
Given the Prince of Wales is already in his 70s, his reign may be short, so many are already looking towards the next generation.
The Drawing Room at Brown's Hotel
"From £65.00 Per Person" and they even have "Free Online Booking"
My mother and I had tea at Brown’s Hotel during a trip to England long ago - 1990 I believe. Enjoy your trip and the Jubilee celebrations.
I agree. They need this celebration to remind them of their heritage and of the importance of preserving Western civilization.
Long live the Queen!
And I love that they are talking about scrapping the use of the metric system now that they are free of the EU.
The queen and whole inbred family should abdicate and let the country move on. Shame on Americans for in any way supporting or celebrating their continued rule.
