House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told a crowd Wednesday in her hometown of San Francisco that the lower chamber will propose legislation banning so-called assault weapons in the coming weeks, The Hill reported.
Speaking at an event regarding gun violence prevention, Pelosi, D-Calif., said a bill tackling certain types of rifles would come after the House considers red flag laws — measures designed to keep weapons from potentially violent people.
On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee is also preparing to field a slate of anti-gun bills. Among them are proposals to prohibit high-capacity magazines and raise the minimum purchasing age for certain rifles.

An "assault" weapon ban is predicated on the insane idea that someone preparing to break dozens of other laws, commit multiple felonies, will somehow be deterred by this one more law. Sure. :-/

I agree. It is not a winning issue with the American people BUT so it seems we are ruled now by our Globalist/NWO elite overlords, not a constitutional duly elected President. Anything goes. The only one is Clarence Thomas. Bless his heart.

Cops have level 2a/3 armor.
No mainstream pistol round, to my knowledge, can go through level 3 armor. 44 magnum is the only one to my knowledge that can pierce standard 2a armor.
Some mainstream rifle rounds can.

Someone should tell these people that the Military and some law enforcement agencies are the only ones with “assault weapons.” Very few civilians own assault weapons. BTW, The Thompson sub machine gun is an assault weapon and has been around since 1918.

This will be interesting. The logic that Scalia used in Heller was that a ban on M-16 was constitutional because it was long standing, but a ban on handguns could not stand becuse handguns are in common possession/use of the public.
Regardless, it’s clear that the government is 100% hostile to an armed public, and Courts are at least lukewarm hostile.

It won't happen. The political climate has changed too much since 1994. Thirty years ago, the guns that fell under the ban weren't widely owned. Today, the AR-15 is the most popular rifle in America, with 20,000,000 in circulation and four thousand more sold each day.
Taking a page from the leftists' playbook of refusing to enforce laws they don't like, there'd be plenty of county sheriffs who wouldn't enforce any sort of mandate. Additionally, you'd find red state governors who would declare their state to be "Second Amendment Sanctuaries" and ignore the federal ban. Manufacturers would relocate to these states and continue on, business as usual.
And this is all even if they could get a ban passed. They can't. It's DOA in the senate.

We have learned a lesson from the horrific tragedy in Uvalde:
Government will mandate that your children be vulnerable, hold you back at gunpoint while they are murdered, and then try to lie about it.

They won't make the same mistake they made last time using a bunch of physical features that gun makers just worked around.
They'll make it simple. An assault weapon for the purposes of this law is any semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a detached magazine.
