Ukraine began evacuating its soldiers on Wednesday from the embattled city of Severodonetsk, the strategic eastern city that Russia has been battling to take over in a bid to control the Donbas region, local officials said.
Ukrainian forces retreated after suffering big losses in the city that’s now about 80% controlled by Russian forces, Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Haidai said Wednesday.
“This is not a betrayal,” Haidai wrote in a post on Telegram.
The governor said the retreat across the river to Severodonetsk’s twin city, Lysychansk, was part of their strategy

Supposedly they are pulling back to high ground on the right bank of the sieverdonets river.
Ivan still has his work cut out for him.
As we all know gallant Ukraine is marching to victory—carrying their rainbow flags high.

I hope all their vehicles have been maintained well enough that they drive in reverse.
;-)
Bu, bu, but I thought the Russians were dying and killing themselves at the border of Ukraine?! What happened?!
They’re not retreating.
They’re advancing to the rear.
Retreated across the river and we know the Russians have trouble with rivers
Russia will take the eastern provinces - had they been smart they would have concentrated on that goal from the beginning and the west would’ve yawned rather than solidify against them.
Quick, send Zelenskyyyyyyyyy $40B more!
War (at least from the perspective of a lowly civilian puke like myself) is ugly from the word go — and this is a particularly ugly war.
Winning!!
You must mean left side
But but we’re winning! Why aren’t we taking in Russian refugees? They’re fleeing Moscow and burning the fields in retreat!...oh wait that was Napoleon and the Austrian painter.
Generally speaking, the western, but a river’s banks — right or left —are determined by its direction of flow (I think)

That does not bother me as much as the actions of this

I left Ukraine this morning. After almost a month in Donbas, an overwhelming but vital experience in so many ways, my present trip has come to an end.
Someone responds by asking if he is okay?
He replies he is fine but there are only 4 left in his squads.
He is asked how many were there?
60 he responds.
“The governor said the retreat across the river to Severodonetsk’s twin city, Lysychansk, was part of their strategy to move to “more advantageous, pre-prepared positions” as they wait for shipments of Western weapons.”
Hilarious.
Lyman is further west and has been under 100% Russian control for over a week.
How will they get those “western weapons”.
Their “pre-prepared positions” are just pre-dug graves.
Sadly, the generals in Kiev probably have not even told them.
.......... I think we need to increase our funding of this war to at least a Trillion Dollars to get the Ukraine through this months battle campaigns ..... Then we can negotiate with them to see what they need for next month. I would be terrible if the Europeans would actually have to step up to the plate and do any major funding.
Actually, the official Ukrainian 'talking head' described it as "our steps or operations to de-occupy this or that region".
(Speaking of which, I kind of wish Diaper Joe would "de-occupy" the White House... ;>)
