What wastewater surveillance currently tells us about COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing, even though many may have started acting like the emergency has passed. A key tool in tracking the pandemic has been wastewater surveillance, especially when case counts and testing numbers have become less reliable with more people using rapid tests and testing access becoming more limited again.

There is a list of comorbidities. Meaning, which are most often present in the Covid dead.

1) Dementia
2) Hypertension
3) COPD
. . .
6) Obesity

75% of people over 65 have hypertension and those odds grow each year.

The point being, there’s no real reason to talk about comorbidities seperately and in addition to age when nearly all the old folks have one or more.

I keep hearing cases are six times higher then last year at this time.

They might be. I'm hearing way more of the people in my network circle being sick right now than I remember during the height of the pandemic. Almost all of them are fully "vaccinated". Most acquired it apparently at large gatherings of people. I'm going to a large gathering of folks in L.A. next week. I'm treating it as a science experiment -- my natural immunity vs the walking vaccinated plague rats...

“D’ya think they’ll ever admit that the vaccine was an abject failure? Ever?”

The original Covid 19 variant is Alpha. The vaccines were designed to target the Alpha spike protein since that’s what designers had to work with.

The vaccines were first released in December 2020. As of February 2022 the Alpha variant no longer circulates in the US. That’s not exactly the sign of failure.

The Omicron variant that circulates now has a different spike protein. There is no current vaccine specifically designed to target it.

A bunch of the kids on our block got Covid and had to stay home from school for the entire week.

Fortunately for them it was nice weather so they were able to spend the entire time riding their scooters, playing basketball, etc.

Guaran-dang-tee they don’t have surveillance on MY wastewater. a) I have camera in that sector, and b) trespassers have guns pointed at them.

I suspect it was similarly being spread by the flushing of pressure toilets, which in turn fed aerosols into the ventilation systems and increased propagation.

You might not want to paint with that wide age-scary brush-it doesn’t appear to work that way in a rural area like this one-about half the population-both locals and snowbirds-is over 65-including me-most of us had a mild case of the Wuhan virus at least a year ago-and I don’t know anyone who has been ill since-most of us are not into getting the non-vaxx, either. There are only a couple of golf courses out here-so many of us are small business owners who do physical work like construction, ranch work, mechanic, etc-we don’t isolate and hide, most of us never wore a mask unless a customer insisted on it-I still carry a pack of them in my truck just in case of a paranoid customer...

The only person I know with a serious co-morbidity is someone who has had chemo-but she has been cancer free for over 2 years and didn’t get Wuhan, either-she is fine...

I’m thinking that the reason we remain healthy is lifestyle-someone overweight/obese is not common, and a drug free/no processed food natural lifestyle is something a lot of us follow-many of us work out-people still fat-shame family members who are obese-it is the worst co-morbidity to have with Wuhan and lots of other viral ailments-one size does not fit all-but that just isn’t healthy...

That is right. The Alpha does not circulate.

That fact that it is a Corona virus means it mutates a lot and faster than any response.

Your immune system gets locked into responding to the spike protein from the Alpha strain. The Jab being pushed is for that variant and it is ineffectual now. That's why Jabbed recipients keep getting re-infected.

The virus can mutate faster than anyone can design and deploy a response.

It most certainly is a failure in that regard and one of the reasons there has never been an effective Corona vaccine.

I had it and finally tested positive a few weeks ago.

It sucked and missed 3 partial days of work (made remote meetings and other necessary stuff) and wouldn’t try to get it again but have certainly been a whole lot sicker many times.

And I have not contaminated my blood with their poisons either.

“It didn’t fail to make a profit”

And that is exactly why they are scrambling to convince everyone that it is hiding behind a tree, just waiting for the start of flu season to pounce again unless you get the sacred vaccine and a booster every 6 months...

It’s all bullsh#t. What the eff are they testing for? My granddaughter has been sick for 3 weeks and those lying useless Covid1984 tests kept returning “positive”.

She has a damn sinus infection after all and not the CCP Fauci flu. She’s FINALLY got proper anibiotics and getting better.

Everyone has forgotten how to diagnose everything but the Big Lie.

My pee is a deep golden color. Good steady stream. Nice resounding acoustics in the toilet. Is that covid? Could the B complex and Turmeric I take every morning have anything to do with it?

Yes! Right after they give Trump credit for the rapid development of the not-a-vaxcine.

Since that is the case, shouldn’t we all go back to mandatory universal mail-in ballots for the mid-terms?

I got it recently, thought it was allergies until mild muscle aches. It never was more than a nuisance, and three days later felt normal.

I like what you said and agree with much of it but, please define, “There is no such thing as “natural immunity” because it is an non natural virus.”

Specifically, “the non-natural virus.” Are you directly stating or implying that this is not a bat virus and/or was of human/lab origin?

Nod . . . I listed obesity on the list without filling in above it. It was only #6. Dementia and hypertension were the big two, likely because of how common they are. But obesity was not the overwhelming comorbidity. It didn’t even make the top 5.

I’ve sort of always wanted to sign onto the clean air and clean living and physical activity stuff, but in 1890 people did all that and still died early.

If you’re rural, the virus just didn’t make the trip there yet. Gas prices likely are going to keep rural areas somewhat insulated. There will be less travel/transmission when the next variant arrives in the world and explodes numbers. Should slow it down for your area.
