Roger Staubach probably never realized how he altered history by going to the Naval Academy and blocking the otherwise promising collegiate football career of a young Joe Biden.
Though, he probably never realized it because Biden just told the world about it on Saturday, and there are some very obvious flaws in the story.
During a commencement address at the U.S. Naval Academy on Friday, Biden claimed that he gained acceptance to Annapolis in 1965 but opted not to go there due to the presence of future Super Bowl champion and NFL Hall of Famer Roger Staubach.
An exciting story, to be sure. The only problem with it is there’s no record of Biden declining an offer to play football at Navy. Likewise, there’s no record of him playing varsity football at the school he ultimately did attend, the University of Delaware. Plus, there’s the not-so-small matter of the dates which Biden provided not syncing up at all.

In any event, Biden has a history of telling tall tales to relate to his audience. For example, in April, Biden told a group of truckers that he once drove a tractor-trailer and worked with a dispatcher named “Big Mama.”

No, he’s lied his whole career.
He especially likes to tell whoppers from his parents that had some great meaning to an upcoming Vote, but make no sense in 1950, and weren’t consistent with his upbringing.
He was raised with a Butler.
He claims to have been fighting for Civil Rights and the downtrodden when he was actually shilling for Credit Card companies who had all kinds of Bidens on their payroll, but no one every saw them in an office or at a work meeting.

Is there a man more insecure in his own skin than Biden? A serial fabulist tries to make up for his own shortcomings by telling tall tales.
These nonstop fabrications suggest he is suffering from imposter syndrome. He compensates for being a worthless nobody with these lies.
The real successful doers don’t have to compensate for their miserable, no-account lives by spinning such yarns. Trump comes to mind.
Staubach ended his football career at Navy in 1964 although he stayed for his five-year commitment rather than leaving to play pro football. The Dallas Cowboys did a very odd thing. They drafted Staubach despite the fact they knew he probably couldn’t play for five years. When his commitment ended, THEN he went to play for the Cowboys and did not find instant acceptance with head coach Tom Landry.
Landry wanted a quarterback who just did what he was told like Bart Starr at Green Bay. He hated quarterbacks ad-libbing during the play like Staubach did in college and in his early days as a pro. But there was one thing about Roger that changed Landry’s mind - Staubach won while his other quarterback, Craig Morton, seemed to choke in big games.
Landry’s control-freak coaching style was one reason Don Meredith retired young and turned to broadcasting. Meredith said once of Landry “If he were married to (bombshell actress) Racquel Welch, he’d expect her to cook.”

The sheer volume of absolute whoppers this man has told year after year after year for so damn many years puts him in a category of its own, one that is utterly stupefying. It isn’t just that what he says is beyond belief; the quantity of lies he has told is beyond belief. A person who tells a lie is not always someone who should properly be called a liar if doesn’t dominate their character; when it is the sum total of their character, that person is a LIAR, and a most damnable one at that.
