Putin weaponizing refugees to destabilize Europe

More than 6.3 million Ukrainians have fled their country since Russia first invaded in late February 2022.

The European Union has welcomed Ukrainian refugees, allowing them to enter its 27 member countries without visas and live and work there for up to three years.

Every day, Europeans have also opened their doors – and pockets – to host Ukrainians and help them find daycare, for example, and other services.

But there is still an uncomfortable reality: Ukrainian refugees are also Russian President Vladimir Putin’s political pawns, intended to politically destabilize the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Many Poles, for example, initially offered to help Ukrainians. But now, more than two months after the war began, there are signs that public compassion is fading.

Warsaw’s population has increased 15% since the start of the war, pushing the city’s mayor, Rafal Trzaskowski, to propose a strategy to handle rising costs.

“Most of the burden is on us,” Trzaskowski said.

Hosting Ukrainian refugees could cost countries more than US$30 billion in the first year alone, according to analysis by the nonprofit think tank Center for Global Development. This could pose new challenges for the European economy, which is already under stress with high inflation.

As a scholar of mass migration, I think it is important to understand that there is often a connection between forced migration – meaning, the migration of people who are often fleeing conflict or environmental disasters – and national or regional security concerns.

an excerpt:

“...In 2016, US Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, who served as a military commander of NATO at the time, warned that Putin and Assad were “deliberately weaponizing migration in an attempt to overwhelm European structures and break European resolve.”...”

Isn’t this exactly what Biden/Obama and cohorts are doing to the USA with their open borders policy???

Pootie is owning the neocons and the globalists left and right, ain't he?

Their sanctions blew up in their faces, they're losing the war in Ukraine, Pootie is making money hand over fist because of what THEY did.

It is to laugh.

Europe had the option of trying to WORK WITH RUSSIA to help them meet their security needs. They chose otherwise. Oh well, lots of new arrivals who are FAR TOO SMART to ever go back to Ukraine, now that the Neocons run the place.

Might at well work with ‘integrating’ your new soon-to-be citizens into your countries, Europe.

Sounds like Castro and the Mariel boat lift. It helped us overall but we didn’t need the psychos. Ukrainians-bring the kids with one parent.

The word “weaponizing” is a key propaganda catchphrase.

What Bravo Sierra I am reading here.

I was wondering about that also. Ukrainians, other than the Neocon Nazi friends there, are FAR DIFFERENT than the typical ‘refugees’ that now infest every country in the West, other than Hungary and Japan. They cost money now, since they mostly have nothing of their own, but I believe that they will be assets to the countries they settle in.

So are all those Ukrainian "migrants" flooding Europe a good thing or a bad thing?

You seem to want it both ways.

War Stinks.

But Bill Clinton made his decision in 1997 to turn the screws on Russia and move NATO steadily eastwards towards Russia and put pressure eastwards in Russia’s directions.

The old George Kennan ‘containment’ notion back in the Cold War Era abandoned.

The Administrations since in general followed the lead.

The Clinton Legacy my friend let all those who suffer take note.

Umm - I think Vlad has proven that he only had to blow gently on the leaf of EU and NATO to knock it all to the ground (or at least show us that the “Emperor” truly has no clothes). Now watch as Xi does “The Quad”.

Putin is syrianizing the Ukraine. When he’s finished the two decimated countries will look a lot alike.

I can easily believe4 Putin accepts heavy Ukrainian migration into NATO countries will burden them and perhaps destabilize them. It is a by-product of the kind of war the Russians are waging - intentionally.

I can also see Biden/Obama/Gore, et al, using their open border to bring about the destabilization the US by flooding the country with illegal aliens, and clearing a pathway to bring in their green policies and socialism.

Biden and Putin - two peas in a pod!

Better NATO countries be flooded by Ukranian refugees than those from other parts of the Third World.

Culturally, the Ukranians will have more in common with their hosts than the waves of the past few decades to Europe. They should assimilate pretty quickly and willingly. I doubt they’ll be anything like the burden that migrants from other cultures have been.

Obama launched wars in Syria and Libya which opened the gateways of Africa and the Middle East to Europe. Obama’s destruction of Syria launched the greatest refugee flow in Europe since WWII

Yes, if NATO and the EU press Putin on all sides and he feels his country is in danger, he will make you very sorry you did it. Prayers for the people suffering in this proxy war. Prayers for the U.S. economy being hurt by this conflict.

Europe (and America) thought it would be funny to let Ukraine get blown up by Russia. I really don’t get what their end game was but I think they got what they want.
