Portrait of a killer: Call of Duty-loving shooter, 18, was bullied at school for being poor, creeped out his Wendy's female co-workers, and lived with his grandmother who he shot at START of rampage after row over not graduating

In yet another tragic mass shooting, Salvador Ramos, 18, slaughtered 19 innocent children and two much-loved teachers at Robb Elementary school, in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday before being killed in a shoot out with a Border Patrol officer and local law enforcement.

It is the second deadliest shooting in US history after the infamous Sandy Hook massacre in 2012 - which saw 26 people killed - and has once again left people asking how someone could commit such a heinous crime.

As the country tries to make sense of the tragedy, stories about Ramos are beginning to emerge from those who knew him best, painting the picture of loner with a propensity for self-harm and violence, who was from an unstable home, including an alleged drug-using mother.

Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez said in a local television interview that the school shooter was born in North Dakota, but attended high school in Uvalde.

Neighbors and classmates say his behavior spiraled into the bizarre and macabre as he entered his later teenage years, with one friend telling Good Morning America: 'He had scars on his face and someone asked him, 'Are you ok?' and he just said with a smile 'I did it myself, I liked how it looked.'

He began dressing in dark clothes and military boots and used his BB gun to target random people, one local claimed.

There are around 15,000 residents in Uvalde which sits roughly 80 miles west of San Antonio, around an hour's drive from the US-Mexico border.

The would-be mass murderer lived with his grandmother on Hood Street, less than three miles from the Robb Elementary school.

More than one-third of residents in the city live at or barely above the federal poverty line.

That was legislation that was sponsored by Democrats and a Republican and signed by Reagan. He gets all the blame but it wasn’t his idea.

You are correct. But there is something about murdering children, so that is a notable part of the scenario.

I think I could find 16+ groups of families and loved ones who would wish he was killed a few years go.

Thanks for posting that article as it has details not in the mainstream news reporting. So he shot his grandmother in San Antonio and then drove to Uvalde? That is an important detail and how come he was able to evade law enforcement on a high speed chase for such a long time.

Big, empty state, not many intersections where he could be headed off, perhaps, and no helicopters like in urban areas?

The thing is, was he taking any of the "psychotropic" drugs? The kind of mass shootings that we have experienced across the nation began with--not before--their implementation as "magic bullets" to "solve" mental problems, and have steadily increased the more they are distributed and the more the shootings are publicized and politicized: antipsychotics, antidepressants, antianxiety benzodiazepines, antisiezures, etc.

So what was this guy taking? The Buffalo shooter? The Chinese LA curch shooter?

Is the psychoactive drugs involvement issue still being way played down by the big pharma psyop perpetrators?

Why do they keep on saying this is the second highest death toll from shooting and 21?

Lubys in 1991 was 23

It could be because someone may go to YouTube and stumble upon the 1991 testimony of Dr. Suzanna Hupp (Gratia), the disarmed by law woman who's parents were murdered there.

We certainly can't have that /sarc.

An added comment for 2A Supporters:
Calls are already everywhere for "Universal Background Checks". I expect most here know what this is. But if you are not familiar you need to be aware that this is a deliberate stepping stone to full firearm registration. Why? Because universal background checks are completely unenforceable and useless without it. Their goal is confiscation, and they will not stop the incremental removal of the second amendment until it is done. The reason so many gun laws are under-enforced or not enforced at all is to allow them to bring more restrictions against law abiding gun owners. Once the 2A falls all of our other rights will follow.

And some people turn that anger inward and commit suicide, or increasingly turn it outward with mass murder. I don’t know what the answer is but I am shocked that everyone wants to ban guns and not violent FPS games.

I’m well aware of that. It was during his administration was all I mentioned.

It’s all the spineless politicians and courts fault. Completely 100%.

Poor victim.

NOT!

By other more honest sounding reports, he had mental health issues.

“Bullying” was his forte. He did it, not received it.

How can anybody shoot Grandma?

And where were Mom & Dad? Their absence would make Nana all the more important.

Most articles I have seen specified k-12 schools, and if you count only the students it is the deadliest.

get serious about mental illness

Sorry, but what does it mean to "get serious about mental illness"? Everyone is already serious about mental illness. No one makes jokes about it or takes it lightly, say, like they used to in the 1970s or 80s.

Even how we refer to them has changed, and there are thousands of programs out there, many free, for people suffering from mental illness.

There are constant PSAs about suicide hotlines, mental help resources and so on, on radio stations and TV commercials.

Most corporations offer some kind of mental health resources. So I don't know what else society can do in the name of "getting serious" about this. It seems that contemporary society in the 3rd decade of the 21st century takes mental illness very seriously.
