At least 14 children are dead, as well as a teacher and the suspected gunman after a Texas elementary school shooting, Gov. Greg Abbott said.
The suspect is 18-year-old Uvalde, Texas, resident Salvador Ramos, Abbott told reporters at a press conference. It is believed the suspect was killed by responding law enforcement.
Officers said Ramos acted alone in his alleged rampage at Uvalde Elementary School, which has students in 2nd through 4th grade.
The shooting occurred during Uvalde School District's last week in session before the summer break, authorities said.
Ramos was a student at Uvalde High School and killed his grandmother before the alleged rampage, the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office told the National Review.
Sources originally reported that the shooter was in custody.
"Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde," Texas Republican Gov. Abbott wrote in a press release. He said he directed state law enforcement agencies to help local officials respond to the tragedy.
The border town of Uvalde has about 16,000 residents and is about an hour and a half drive from San Antonio, where several patients were transferred to University Health for treatment.
All Uvalde school district activities are canceled, and a press conference will be held later this afternoon, the school stated.

Ok, so you subscribe to the sociopathic theory of parental non-responsibility for anything to do with their children.
After all, kids are just toys, right? (/S)
*LOL*
Allegedly one of his social media pics.
Maricon.
Ok, so you subscribe to the sociopathic theory of parental non-responsibility for anything to do with their children.
Maybe I should clarify for you. I'm against what you stated above, the part about threatening and forcing parents to learn what the state wants them to learn, under severe penalty.
Ya see where all this will go?
I understand and see your point; however, the laws already exist. They may be different from state to state but they are out there.
My underlying point was that these shootings are a result of mental illness and enablement, not guns
Can you explain why you responded ‘Maricon’ to the tranny pic comment?
Yet conveniently forget (ignore) the mass shootings in every large blue city every damn weekend
Was he known to mental health officials? Local law enforcement? Did the school side-step past behavior problems like they did in Parkland?
Past time for arming teachers and hardening schools.

Whether anything was done for this particular school is a good question.
I had no idea the state could force a person to learn about medical issues under penalty and face severe legal consequences, all sanctioned by the state of course...Oh and all from "their" perspective and their experts! Like Dr. Fauci for example.
A bit off subject, but an elementary school with grades 2 through 4? What about grade 1 or grade 5?
“and past time for parents to learn what the signs of schizophrenia are, and if they don’t want to, or won’t learn, then hold them liable for gross negligence”
And then what?
It is extremely difficult to get such persons help to prevent violent outcomes.
There’s a young man I used to manage the social security for (he is disabled mainly for schizophrenia), and he violently attacked a family member that required a restraining order. He’s been to jail. He’s been locked up for psych evals several times. He’s made death threats numerous times (including to me). He’s a big guy and once had to get tazed when several large police officers could not restrain him. Yet even in these situations the authorities didn’t take the time or effort to be sure he was put into a program that required him to continuously be monitored for taking his prescribed medications, let alone having him committed.
“I guess we’ll find out.”
I missed your sarc tag. ARE YOU JOKING???
What source of information available to the public do you deem accurate and trustworthy? Alphabet media?
Tell all of us what you know about the Black Supremacist NYC subway shooter.
Are you supposing he’s a tranny or did you read that somewhere?
Either way, he’s evil to the core.
The border seems to have moved.
Now up to 18 children and 3 adults.
Reported the school has been on 48 lockdowns in the last year. wow
Actually wouldn’t surprise me, the way Biden is......
As long as someone recognizes the symptoms and tries to get them help. Granted, sometimes the help doesn’t work, but at least someone tried. Its not negligence if you try.
Its negligence if you stubbornly refuse to admit to yourself that a family member or friend has serious mental problems and you do absolutely nothing about it. Allowing someone with an obvious serious mental illness to have guns is asking for trouble.
There is no way the parents of this kid did not know something was wrong with him. Maybe they did try to help him and it didn’t take. At this point, we just don’t know.
